Lunar, I have no mental problems as such (be quiet any1 I know in real life). However people on here obviously have struggled with similar issues as you. Personally I’d be flattered they were offering the benefit of their experience and try to take on board some of the lessons they learned the hard way.

No, supporting and providing for your self is the ‘be all and end all’ of life. It will do much more for your self esteem than any medication/therapy ever will.

Maybe one day, when this is all in the past for you, you’ll sit back and offer some1 troubled advice of your own. I’d bet the advice you'll give will sound a lot like what you are being told now.

That is not the reason why people work, I will be dam glad to pack in working in 2 years when I retire, I have had jobs I hated, jobs I loved, and jobs I endured, for 50 years, so that I could bring up a family.
Work is just that, work, it’s not meant to be enjoyed; it’s a means to an end.

Being a worker means you can have the things that you enjoy in life, be they materialistic possessions, or the right to have "value systems".

You have no rights to anything in this life except what you work for; all you are entitled to in any welfare state is basic food, shelter, and health, (and the health you wish is not always achievable) accept that, and do something to change the mind set that “it’s all depressing and not worth the bother of tryingâ€.

That pint at the end of the week is the best pint ever, if you’ve worked for it in any crappy job there is available, you deserve that night out if you’ve slaved at a job you hate, meanwhile keep looking for the perfect job, but do something, anything, while you’re looking, physical tiredness and the mental tiredness of coping with a job is the best way to blot out your troubles, it’s like giving up cigarettes you have to suffer to get better, and then one day you realise you are coping and even enjoying life.

I have a different but similar idea. Maybe there should be a thread called the Lunar Scorpion and its ongoing struggle. Whenever Lunar feels she is, in some way, being discriminated against. She can post in that thread and reference the original that inspired her. This way threads won’t be hijacked but Lunar will still be able to correct people about the injustices of the world.

I'm not intentionally trying to de-rail this thread any further but THAT IS the be all and end all. Providing for yourself and your loved ones regardless of whether it is "a job that I feel like applying for" or not.

This is a tricky one. I think the debate amongst you guys regarding the welfare system and Lunar's experiences is great, and should be encouraged. However, I am also responsible for ensuring threads don't go too far off the rails and stay on-topic, which has clearly happened in this case.

I was going to move a lot of these posts to the "Dossers..." thread, but I don't particularly want to resurrect that due to the tone that some of the posts took. I will leave things as they are at the moment, but all I would ask is that in future, if a response in a thread starts to head down a different path, perhaps consider making a new thread on the new topic?
