Stafford - Drowning under a sea of litter

. I have recently been in contact with one of the founding members of KEEP STONE TIDY who has provided me with all the necessary files and documents etc required to set up a KEEP STAFFORD TIDY website. However I do not have the necessary skills to setup such a website and therefore I am appealing to fellow Forumites who maybe able to help me or who would themselves be willing to run the website and showcase the good work being done by Stafford residents. It would be my aim (if allowed) to somehow link this website to Stafford Forum and StreetScene so forumites are able to see the progress being made and comment on any litter problem araes. Incorporated in this I would like a MAP showing all the streets which have become adopted by residents. However I have no idea how to do this.

Thankyou all for your time.

How has this project progresssed? I havent the skills but thought someone on here would have

I am in Coton ward and do litter pick and have done for some time (not that you would know by the amount of detritus still around)

It would great if one could see what other areas being cleansed by like minded people[/quote]

Hi, As requested a little update on where we are with this website. I have a meeting next week with the leader of Stafford Friends of the Earth who are very supportive of what we are trying to achieve and would like to discuss the possibilty of linking this potential KEEP STAFFORD TIDY site with there Friends of the EARTH site. Hopefully I will no more next week. Like you, I am keen to highlight all the good work people are doing in keeping their areas tidy and would like to showcase this. It is my hope that people will then be spurred on by this and the concept will snowball.

Through setting this informal group up, we now have over 10 volunteers in Forebridge, 3 or 4 in Rowley Ward and I am aware of individuals in other wards who are making a stand against litter.

A quick update for Forebridge Residents:
- I have contacted the Headteacher of the Chetwynd center regarding the amount of litter in and around their grounds. She has informed me that they now conduct daily litter picks.

Hi

Yes Keep Stone Tidy Website disbanded a couple of weeks due to one of the founding members Jason leaving the area and being unable to find anybody to take over the role. Luckily for me, I contacted him by chance the day before he closed down the website. Initially it was my aim to bolt on Keep Stafford Tidy Website to there website which is why he decided to give me all the files, documents etc needed to form Keep Stafford Tidy website.

The littering around the town seems to be worse than ever, perhaps it is because of the high winds, perhaps it is due to the fact that Stafford Borough Council can't seem to be bothered to get bin men out of bed if there is a bit of ice on the roads - poor chaps might twist an ankle or something.
The result is residential bins overflowing, yesterday even the town centre (which usually looks tidy) looked a right state. Do we all get a refund on our Council Tax if the bin men fail to turn up? Not chuffin' likely.

Correct me if I'm wrong but dont all the binmen work for Biffa now? It would be interesting to find out if they have suffered any financial penalty for not emptying the bins. I am currently in Austria working and mentioned to a collegue how clean everywhere was. His reply was "thats because all the shit's covered in snow" I guess we are not alone.

Noticed the other day that the inappropriately named Nature Reserve that is opposite the Leisure Centre on Lammascote Rd was a right old mess - litter blowing everywhere and even some bits and bobs of drug taking paraphernalia. I was unsuprised by the littering as fecklessness almost seems to be acceptable these days but I was suprised by the druggie stuff. Take care around there.

I watched in disgust recently as a middle aged woman that looked quite well-to-do rooted through her handbag and threw several pieces of litter to the floor before finding what she was after. You expect it of the mouth breathers, but its not just scutters that litter. Same with old people and dog muck, they never seem to pick it up.

Smallman Street full of dog sh*t. Couldn't walk two steps without having to dodge it, the whole length of the path!
Litter getting worse around Coton Fields and Littleworth. Does anyone know if the street cleaning / litter picking schedule has changed in the last 10 years? Or is it that people are dropping more litter?

I can't for the life of me understand the mentality of littering anyway but in relation to dog crap what I find utterly perplexing is the people who go to the trouble of actually scooping the stuff into a plastic bag, tie it up and then chuck the bag onto the floor or into the nearest hedge.... Just what the hell planet are these people on???

They pick it up because someone is watching, and they are not quite chav enough to walk away but also not willing to actually find a bin. Once your back is turned its in the hedge!

I hate it when dog walkers take a stroll round the countryside, where clearly they dont think rules of poopascooping count. They must be of the view that country folk clearly must enjoy walking in dog do!! No pavement therefore no poopascoop rule.
