Stafford is closed, come back later

So, with the Beaconside road works and those in the centre of town there's now some lights (for 24 weeks) at the Crematorium traffic lights.

So after the hell of the roundabout roadworks previously it was nice to finally use the new left turn lane and no longer suffer the traffic problems in Blackheath Lane. But no, that was too much for Stafford's department of congestion, "we must restore the congestion" they said.

Just put a sign up on the border of Stafford saying "Closed". It would be easier.

Driving around town is still perfectly possible and the delays far less than in most other local towns. Just avoid rush hour if at all possible and if you know there are roadworks on your normal roads then plan a sensible alternative.

Ignore the above if the Stafford Bypass (M6) is shut for some reason.

I'm on my bike this afternoon, so it won't affect me if it's just for today. At the moment I tend to drive into work, drive home, then cycle back. I'd not need to go home for lunch if I didn't have two dogs to let out.

According to Roadworks.org it's Severn Trent doing survey work "GPR survey for new wastewater main".

I suspect in planning for all the houses planned for the fields around there.

Is this to do with the new housing estate getting built?

Just trying to get a feel for the area, sorry for jumping on your post just looking through the forums.

Partly, and work to the MOD barracks, and new MOD homes being built - there's a lot of development happening at the North end of town.

Even bikes can't move sometimes. Today there was large van parked completely blocking Beaconside cycleway.

What and the rider adhered to the road rules? They didn't just disembark and cycle whereever needed to get past and on there way? Not havin that :D

It seems that works are going to start on Weston Road from Monday for a week. Marked as "high impact, delays due" we all know how bad Weston Road gets but it's an issue that's exacerbated with it forming part of the diversion for the Beaconside works.
Why have roadworks been scheduled along an already congested diversion route?

Cycling is fully legal on the highway along Beaconside.

You may jest, but it has been suggested that cyclists should be obliged to use paths provided. If you don't and have the misfortune to get run over by a truck, the legal vultures will descend.

Because SCC are totally incapable of joined-up thinking.

If they do that, then expect tyre marks over the cars on Tixall Road.
