Tbh , I think most of the standalone stores are going now, I mean tbh, they do have same day delivery which is a pretty successful concept.

Can you get your money back from a C&C as well? Not that I’ll be using Argos very often… as others have said the Sainsbury’s one is just plain annoying to get to and I have no way of paying for parking anyway.

I think I've heard of this thing you call 'change' I believe it is related to something called 'cash'
I have not had any of that in my wallet in over 2 years now

To answer myself:

Empty properties

You do not have to pay business rates on empty buildings for 3 months. After this time, most businesses must pay full business rates.

Some properties can get extended empty property relief:

  • industrial premises (for example warehouses) are exempt for a further 3 months
  • listed buildings - until they’re reoccupied
  • buildings with a rateable value under £2,900 - until they’re reoccupied
  • properties owned by charities - only if the property’s next use will be mostly for charitable purposes
  • community amateur sports clubs buildings - only if the next use will be mostly as a sports club

So the owners are already making a loss and fine with that, rather than rent below a level they want. Surely just offer leases with shorter terms until the market improves, get at least some money in? Seems odd, but then I'd never open a shop in Stafford!
