Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

When I was in the Halifax yesterday the staff were advising customers that the branch was closing in April and the nearest branch would be Cannock or Longton.

I'm just hoping that I don't ever need to go to a branch ever again as neither of these locations are safe to be at if I need to deposit large amounts of cash!!

I'm too with Halifax and this whole business of closing your bank does my head in. I might just close and transfer my accounts, it's a crap interest rate anyway, so may be the push I need.

To be fair I rarely visit the branch but when I do it's usually to deposit cash that I wouldn't want to carry around towns like Cannock or Longton.

I thought it had been announced it was closing in November?
https://www.expressandstar.com/news...n-centre-bank-building-to-be-sold-at-auction/ (From Nov 30th, 2023)

"The substantial Grade II listed freehold bank, operating as Lloyds, in Stafford's Market Square is going under the hammer in the Acuitus commercial property auction on December 13.

The property has a guide price of £750,000.

It is opposite the Guildhall Shopping Centre and inclides a ground floor banking hall, mezzanine level with ancillary accommodation on the basement, first, and second floors with a total approximate floor area of 8,021 sq ft.

An extension to the lease was recently agreed through to June 2031 with the tenant paying an annual rent of £79,000.

Jon Skerry of Acuitus said: “This is a very handsome property in the heart of Stafford. Assets let to banks remain popular with investors, especially properties with historic value and potential for alternative use."

The auction starts at 1pm and will be broadcast via livestream on the Acuitus website with bidding online, by telephone and by proxy."

I must have got it wrong then. Or misremembered, as I would say if I was a politician.

We will just have to accept that you've lost your WhatsApp messages.

The days of actual bank branches are numbered - we just don't know what that number is...

Nobody would imagine setting up MEB shops or gas showrooms now.

Every time a bank branch in a town closes, it eases the pressure to close the others, especially if they are in the same group.
