Not exactly a shop, or Stafford, but it's a shame.....

The only mentions I've seen of the market was an electronic billboard around junction 9 of the M6 (something about some Coronation Street cast attending). A post saying they had cancelled it one Saturday, now this.
It's telling that most posts on fb are saying they had no idea it was there

I saw a few posters on lamp posts around the roundabout a few weeks ago and thought I may pay it a visit sometime. Now, that chance has gone.

We went, but it was wet, rainy & windy. The track to it was terrible with lots of pot holes... Not great for my little car.

Such a shame though... I hoped it would become something....only last week they were advertising car boot at the same time as the market.

In the fog

In the middle of the night

🤔 Think if you cleared out the building, basically reduced it too a shell, level the floors, added a few bogs, and maybe a bar, I reckon it would make an excellent venue for a Roller Disco', .................

Any takers! ✌️

Weirdly I also thought the other day it would make a great roller disco venue - it has that vibe to it.

DVD/CD shop opposite old M&S closes Saturday. Everything £1
It was constantly more expensive then CEX and it didn't have anything alphabetised but thanks for the heads up, we'll try and pop down.

The boy has a growing collection of dvds so he doesn't have to worry about his favourite films being at the whims of license agreements on streaming services.

It's a shame, clearly someone's dream and another shop gone at that end.

Any kind of leisure/hospitality type venue would be a good bet tbh, but it would live or die by the council’s willingness to do free parking for it otherwise people would constantly be worrying about their parking tickets and not sticking around.

It probably would have been a better unit for Superbowl really

Not terribly surprising at all, people just don’t buy physical media much these days outside of games

Was it new stuff or were they trying to go for the “retro” crowd?

It was just general 2nd hand dvds, which are handy if you know you want something you'll watch a lot (in the case if our house the recent run of Godzilla / Kong monsterverse films) and you don't want any barriers to watching whichever takes your fancy at any given time - but we picked up a couple we were missing for £1 and £1.50 from CEX and whichever one we couldn't find there new for £3 from amazon delivered the next day.

If it wasn't for the boy (who is 8 and has only known on demand streaming services or dvds for all of his entertainment needs) I'm not sure we'd have any physical media, really.

Their eBay and online shop is staying open just the physical shop closing.
Picked up a few items but it was always cheaper in either eBay,cex or even Amazon

Stafford Wilko to close on Tuesday 12 September 2023.

I think it's got the potential to end up being for retirement living i.e. McCarthy Stone.

Great city centre location, right next to amenities and transport. Next door at the Guildhall about to be developed into residential too over the next few years.

Potential to even include all of Broad Street/Balk Passage etc., and the asking price which was once close to £1m has been reduced to £500k.

It may even be tempting for the owners of the Guildhall development to extend their development into this plot, but I'd suggest their risk exposure in Stafford would probably be a bit too high for that.
