It was a magical world for a kid in there. Train sets, all manner of models and toys. It might look a bit rough on the outside, but once inside you were soon parted from your paper-round money by all the wonderful goodies on show. The new shop up on Eastgate was larger, well lit and nicely laid out, but it never had that almost Harry Potter style of magic that this shop had. :)

Or am I just being sentimental ? .... (starts to field strip the .50 cal to put myself right.) :P

I never went in the original shop, but the building survived until I arrived - it's hard to be sure, without overlaying maps, but I think it may have been somewhere about where the central reservation flares out, just north of the crossing to Asda over the Queensway.

Was the Unicorn where the Deak was, before he went to the Sun?

The two worst days for Stafford town centre were when the original market shut in order to become the useless waste of space the Guildhall has become and the day Bagnalls closed.

Jeez one bottle of Bulmer's Cider (bought from Kidmans when you were camping out on the Rec as a kid) and it comes back to haunt you all these years later.

Is that about where "Resales" was? I'm fairly sure it was just before the pub on the corner. (Of course I'm waaay too young to remember the pub's name)

In my day, Resales was on Eastgate Street - near the Sheridan.

There was a 'Resales' shop on the corner of South Walls and Eastgate St more or less opposite where the Unicorn was.

Right-click on the 'little failed image thing' and then 'open in another tab'.

    Usually works.

'Open in a new tab' is greyed out, 'reload picture' doesn't work and 'copy image address' and pasting it into the address bar on a new tab gives me a Google message "403. That’s an error. You'll just be on some sort of list - for making remarks about Cheltenham, or something like that...
