I know it's rather early, but this must be a contender for 'most ironic post of the year' award, if such a thing existed.Wtf...make sense man
When i was a studious man, i had a rather eccentric Linguistics lecturer. At the start of my second academic year i had a class led by him that was supposed to be cross curricula - ie many students from many disciplines were supposed to gather on a Tuesday morning to bask in the glory of his wisdom. Not enough arseh*les needing to be saved, then.

When i was a studious man, i had a rather eccentric Linguistics lecturer. At the start of my second academic year i had a class led by him that was supposed to be cross curricula - ie many students from many disciplines were supposed to gather on a Tuesday morning to bask in the glory of his wisdom.
The first of these lectures was well attended - there must have been about 60-70 students in attendance.
The second of them, attendance had dropped to about ten. There's a fine line between eccentricity and wtfckery?.
He was a strange fruit to be sure - as far as i was concerned he was exactly the sort of thing i was at college for - fruit-bats spouting almost incomprehensible is-it-gibberish? at me was kind of what i thought Higher Education was all about. I can, however, completely understand why this probably quite sympathetic assessment of his abilities was not shared by my peers.
As my second year progressed, attendance levels at this particular lecture never once reached the exalted heights of the first, but never once dipped below the diminished levels of the second, so it kind of just kept going, even though every participant must have, at least at some level, deeply appreciated its futility.
It quickly became my favourite lecture of my course, because it was apparent early on that material covered in this lecture was being missed by the vast majority of all my co-students. This meant that everything that he covered on Tuesday had to be reiterated on the following Thursday afternoon. Now you might think that this was a good thing because i could now take Thursday afternoons off, but far from it. I would go to both.
On Tuesday morning i would smoke a joint, go to the lecture, and just 'go with the flow' - it is from this man that i have learned the hugely useful phrase 'but i digress', which i use on an almost daily basis - knowing that i could then go to the Thursday seminar with my wits about me. Anything that had twisted the melon on Tuesday could potentially be ironed out on Thursday.
I appreciate that in an age of actually paying money for this kind of caper in the form of tuition fees, this might not sound like an ideal state of affairs, but this was before that travesty, and i absolutely loved it.
Two things from these dead lectures, many years ago, actually have any relevance to me typing all of these .
The first is one that i didn't get at all - for all you Francophiles i give you 'Pas de lieu Rhône que nous'
= Paddle your own canoe
Then there was 'There I saw at anchor their eyesore, a tanker'
Words are just sounds - Save our Soles or Save Arseholes?
