Can't stand Primark, generally cheap tat and fast fashion, the supermarkets a slightly better class of fast fashion. Love TK Maxx but it hit and miss if they have what you need. What I'd love is Clarks back, quality shoes, and some more quality clothing stores. Plus a decent kids clothes store that isn't a supermarket. Just generally better quality things and the shops that sell them. Cheap stuff is total false economy.
Fast fashion is a mindset thing though? I buy clothes I intend to wear for a while (in fact I mostly buy 2nd hand) - I don't hugely mind where they are from if they are in a style I like - sometimes that's Primark or Asda. For kids clothes that's different, although again, most of what the boy wears is 2nd hand and I can tell you supermarket stuff last just as long as anything pricier

I don't think so, fast fashion is about cheap labour, poor environmental practices and lack of longevity. Some things will be better than others but the whole model is about short term and therefore repeated purchase and consumption.

It's not always possible but buying quality items and paying more is generally worth while. We regularly but from charity shops and second hand sites like Vinted and there is no doubt that the better quality stuff lasts longer.

I'd just like some better shops that aren't supermarkets!

I went to "The Gym" on The friary Retail Park (next to TK Maxx) yesterday for the first time. Hmmm, not entirely sure I will remain with them as I feel the offering at Pure Gym is better. It is however new, and clean. A little cavernous, but thats the limitations of the space. I was struggling to get in at one point and due to their lack of staff, or their staff already feeling jaded, the one staff member sat at a table directly in front of the doors ignored me and it was a gym goer that came to my rescue. I only saw one staff member whilst I was there at 5pm.
It is however very quiet, figuratively and literally, on the one hand it means you aren't waiting for apparatus, and on the other, the only sound is fellow lardys grunting.
Quiet at 5pm is almost enough of a reason to want to swap from PureGym. The post-work crowd means it’s usually packed and you can’t always use the kit you want.

They took so long to open I’ve not really seen any significant advertising to draw people in.

I've seen no one in that barbers , and I now noticed it's already having a 50% off sale.... That vape drink store though is getting some passing trade at least.

The British Heart Furniture shop has also closed for a refurb till next week .

Are they legitimate customers though. Could be friends to make it look busy. 🤔 😂

That seems a strange business model??🤔 especially in that location. I know it’s not far from Kinsmead but surely you’d want somewhere a lot easier to get to with parking right outside. (I know I would if I was ever to need that service)

Plans have been submitted to demolish 30 Eastgate Street (which I believe is occupied by Boris & Barbara (I wonder if Monica knows) and construct a new building for 7 flats with a shop on the ground floor.

Yes, I noticed that in the Newsletter.
"The existing building is contrary to the Eastgate Street scene" claim the applicant. I always thought that was the Telephone Exchange.
The truth is that the existing building doesn't make loads of money but several flats would.

Just looked on Google and Boris & Barbara have their address as 30, and Street View shows it as Carthy Accountants, then the Beauty place, and finally Boris & Barbara.
