I hope everyone who needs to buy toys this Christmas makes at least one visit to Salter Street Toys, I for one will be visiting to refill the toy basket in the coffee shop in The Swan - let’s all supports small local independent shops this Christmas

I totally get what people have said about choosing convenience (which is often online) but I'm going to make sure I buy at least one of my sons Christmas presents from Salter Street toys this year. I reckon if we all decided to buy just a handful of our Christmas presents from local independents we could make a big difference. It does take a little bit of effort as it's so much easier to shop online these days especially with the likes of Amazon prime etc but I always feel good when I choose local and would rather give my money to an independent.

I know somebody who chose to buy an article online, when it was available from a shop less than 300 yards away, at a time when the shop was open, for exactly the same price, rather than go there and get it now, from a local business. It wasn't even raining.

The shop is now closed.

The parcel took about five days to arrive and they had to go to Newport Road to actually claim it after the failed delivery....
