Junction 10 is under construction to be fair. It'll be finished shortly(ish)
I'm not sure this helps? The traffic isn't using 10 it's travelling further south. I mean it helps those who are going off at 10 for sure, which is a positive as the queues to get off there were horrible, but it won't relieve the congestion between 10 and 8 imo.

Untaxed vehicles in Stafford are currently clamped by a private contractor acting under devolved powers granted by the DVLA. If the vehicle remains untaxed after 24 hours it is lifted to their pound in Stoke. If unclaimed, dependant upon the value of the vehicle, eg under £1k or over £1k after a maximum of 14 days they take ownership and dispose of the vehicle however they see fit. Usually either scrapped or E-bayed, the proceeds are retained by the contractor.
Finally a private contractor doing a good job!

Do you have the name of the contractor?

Seems like a biz to be involved in, any brown envelopes involved?

TBH it's only the vehicle sales which make it pay. There are clamp release fees for motorists that do tax their vehicles after clamping (eg most) but with set up cost of ANPR kitted vehicles, wages, running costs of recovery vehicles and need for a large pound and office...........

I've had to travel to Oldbury every day this week. It should be easy, M6 to J8, M5 to J2 and a short hop to the site Im working at. Even leaving at 6.20am has seen me stuck in traffic around j10 everyday bar Monday. What should be a straight forward 35 min journey has turned in to an endurance test to find alternative routes.

It's been the same on the way back, leaving around 2pm the M5 has been jammed from J1 each day.

Why can't we get a decent transport system in this country? I'm working a mile from Sandwell and Dudley train station but the logistics of that just make the whole thing unworkable.

Backward, our whole profit and shareholders only approach to everything has made us a backward failure.
It has never ever been a 35 minute journey driving to J2 of the M5 even on a Friday morning when there's generally less traffic....

I worked for a few years pretty much where you are describing and I found a seemingly convoluted but quite straight forward route that avoided the M5, as it was off Jct9 it wouldn't help you with Jct 10 issues.

I used to go to Bilston a lot in the last century, at times when J10 and J10A could be difficult. I was shown a route which was something like this, I think - it was a vast improvement.

But this was thirty years ago, before the Black Country Route was open.

Yes the black country route. Use it alot and it helps, its not great for Oldbury but still preferable than stationary traffic on the m6 for sure!

I went along it many times for the Beacon Hotel at Sedgley, Mrs Mudgie driving and her mother living a three minute walk away.

Glad we will be missing that part of the motorway most of the time now. Sat there for bloody ages the other week going down to Paignton , made worse by the rail strikes meaning a hell of a lot more traffic on the roads. Radio kept saying just sheer volume causing the miles of queues we were crawling in , or sat still sweltering without Aircon. No accidents luckily! Took us 6 hours for a usually 3 hrs journey , and most of that sitting approaching Walsall to West Brom

Just got home from Barry Island in South Wales. M4,M5,M6 😠
All fine except for the M5 to M6 link. Nightmare hour to get through to junction 11. It also never good when the satnav says 'hazardous driving conditions' for the M6, M6 toll merge

Fuel costs have come down a little bit... Earlier tonight Asda was 174.7 for unleaded and 184.7 for diesel (from what I can remember) ...
Others are all still over £1.90 for diesel that I can see. In Latvia it peaked at €2.12 but was down to €1.84 when I left.

OK so it looks like I might have to drive to Brierley Hill more regularly in rush hour. Anyone got any secret routes to avoid the carpark that masquerades as a motorway please?
