When did increasing lanes on a road and destroying our environment ever cure traffic problems? The only solution is to drastically reduce car dependence with decent public alternativesCalling any of those roads a ring road is laughable. Beaconside is single carriageway, it needs to be dual the whole length.
Anything from Weston Road across Baswich won’t happen as the geography (marshland basically) makes it incredibly expensive.
What I’m more on board with is making most of the actual ring road of the town centre a one way system.
Riiiight. When did increasing lanes on a road and destroying our environment ever cure traffic problems? The only solution is to drastically reduce car dependence with decent public alternatives
I'd say the fix is somewhere in between, stafford has crap roads but worse public transport. I can't think of any country I've ever visited that had worse.Riiiight.
The idea that Stafford doesn’t need more road infrastructure is dumb.
We won’t all cycle and catch the bus. Sorry to didisappoint.
@DoggedWalker, I'm still waiting for your reply! Not heard that one before. How would that improve matters for those wanting to go in the opposite direction to the one way system?
Riiiight.

And the one way system around Stafford? There’s (very roughly) 10 million more people in the country than there was 20 years ago. The infrastructure to support that growth doesn’t exist. We have no real increase in rail capacity thanks to NIMBYism about HS2. We’ve fudged motorways by using the hard shoulder, which we’re now apparently against, and no town in the country has seen proper change to road building to support the housing being built.
As for worse public transport. It depends on your definition but Mexico is pretty poor. You either use a coach (of varying degrees of quality) or fly to make any inter city journey. Or you drive. There’s one rail line which is a tourist line.
I've not yet visited Mexico, but I've visited many countries that are placed in a similar position to us on wealth and all were far, far better than us. Even poorer countries made us look bad, but then drive across Europe nowadays and you realise we don't even repair our roads forget new ones! There’s (very roughly) 10 million more people in the country than there was 20 years ago. The Isle of Man's railway lines were built for the tourist industry but that doesn't mean they don't maintain their roads. There’s one rail line which is a tourist line.

were they one way?I’ve driven on plenty of badly maintained roads in Europe!

I'm guessing that this is related...Please note, the A518 between Uttoxeter and Weston, near Stafford, will remain closed to vehicles and pedestrians until at least Monday (4 December) following a collision yesterday. Diversions will be in place.
Cleared now.Motorists are warned of delays on the M6 northbound due to a crash in Staffordshire this evening. The incident happened between J12 for the A5 (Gailey) and J13 for the A449 (Stafford South).
Travel time is said to be around 15 minutes. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports that one lane is closed and traffic is queuing for four miles.
The incident happened around 4.15pm today (Monday). Lane one is currently closed.
Inrix reports: "One lane closed and queueing traffic for four miles due to accident on M6 Northbound between J12 A5 (Gailey) and J13 A449 (Stafford South). Congestion to the Northbound A449 through Gailey and Penkridge as traffic seeks an alternative. Travel time is 15 minutes."
Other than the woeful single carriageway A513 with multiple T-junctions and traffic lights, where is the rest of the ‘ring road’ on that map?Looking at the map I think this has got to be one of the dumbest thing I've read on here. (and that says a lot)
