I believe the bus shelter on the Sainsbury's side is being relocated into the old bus stop layby, and the bus stop will be painted onto the road, so the bus will end up blocking the road/lane, like what they have done on Foregate Street by Halfords.

On the other side the cyclist is meant to the use the bus lane.

just because the council painted pictures of bicycles on an expensive chicane doesn't mean I'm going to use it especially when after said chicane there is a pedestrian waiting area that you will need to give way to. it looks like it's going to be faster and safer to use the road. money well spent

Hello All
Just to keep everyone informed. The most up to date information I have regarding the work on the roads in our area.
As County Councillors we are in discussion with the Highways Department at this moment in time with our thoughts and ideas.
In January 2023 Staffordshire County Council successfully secured £19.8m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund 2 (LUF2) initiative, to support a package of road and transport improvements on major routes across the County.
Over £6m of this investment will be spent on road and transport improvements in Stafford, of which £3m is for vital road and bridge maintenance work on the A34, between and including, Queensville Railway Bridge and the A34/A513 double traffic island junction at Weeping Cross.
The proposed works are:
Riverway, Ranshaw Drive and St Leonards Traffic Signals
Upgrade of existing traffic signal equipment, incorporating bus priority measures.
Ranshaw Drive
Upgrade of existing puffin crossings together with associated cycle route improvements to improve connectivity at this junction.
Queensville Avenue – Queensville Roundabout
Upgrade of existing mandatory cycle route to partial-segregated.
Maintenance improvements to Queensville Bridge including waterproofing to bridge deck and verge protection to parapet (bollards and high containment kerbs).
Queensville Roundabout
Major carriageway strengthening works together with kerbing and drainage works to the roundabout and approaches along Silkmore Lane, Lichfield Road, and Radford Bank.
Improved pedestrian and cycle crossings at access to Queens Retail Park.
Provision of bus stop cycle bypass to rear of existing bus layby adjacent to access to Queens Retail Park.
Radford Bank
Major carriageway strengthening works together with kerbing and drainage works along Radford Bank between Queensville and Meadow Ridge.
Cycling and walking improvements, including; the provision of a controlled crossing adjacent to Aldi; upgrading the existing puffin crossing to toucan adjacent Meadow Ridge; a shared cycle route between the footbridge and Meadow Ridge toucan on west side; provision of a 1.5m wide advisory cycle track on existing carriageway uphill between Meadow Ridge and Baswich mini roundabouts.
Street Lighting PFI replacement between Queensville and Baswich mini roundabouts.
Maintenance improvements to Radford River Bridge including drainage improvements, stonework repair and refurbishment of footbridge parapet.
Footway resurfacing along the whole corridor.
A34 / A513 Baswich double mini roundabouts junction
Major structural maintenance carriageway resurfacing works together with kerbing and drainage works to the mini roundabouts and footway enhancements.
Street Lighting Improvements
Lantern upgrades between Lichfield Gyratory and Queensville to pedestrian-friendly energy efficient street lighting.
Street Lighting PFI replacement between Queensville and Baswich mini roundabouts.
General Cycle Improvements
Provision of secure cycle parking at retail centers.
General Bus Stop Improvements
Real time passenger information / bus stop upgrades along the route.

Design work has already started. In recent weeks you may have seen the council’s highways Engineers out on site carrying out site surveys, inspecting the drainage system and collecting samples of the existing road construction to help inform the detailed design.
The main works are planned to start early next summer. Programming includes co-ordination with any planned utility repairs or upgrades, as well as a series of other highway and transport improvements that will be delivered under the same works package, including improved walking and cycling facilities along the route and bridge maintenance works to both the Railway Bridge, adjacent to the former GEC site, and the Radford River Bridge adjacent to the BMW car garage.
The county council has appointed an experienced Project Manager to co-ordinate and oversee this package of work. A detailed stakeholder engagement plan and communications strategy is in development and more information and publicity about the extents of the works, the planned start and finish dates and the traffic management arrangements will be available in the New Year

"Staffordshire County Council successfully secured £19.8m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund 2" "of which £3m is for vital road and bridge maintenance work on the A34".
We're all paying taxes for this undoubtedly "vital" work so it shouldn't be seen as the County Council doing well in "securing" the funding or the Government being generous in granting the so called "Levelling Up" money.

About bloody time.

I'm sure the timing, when a general erection will be held next year, is purely coincidental...

They're not even getting any money for street lights either, that mentions PFI. Why would a simple project to replace street lights require PFI?

Strange....Ranshaw Drive doesn't have any Puffin crossings.....the roads from the Hough Retail park roundabouts to Lichfield Road on either side are not Ranshaw Drive.....

I'm reading this as "temporary traffic light working" for about 5 years based on how long they took to do 250yds or so of the Stone Road and the Market Square works.
