Stafford will be unrecognisable in the next few years

I was just thinking yesterday I ought to take some photos of the old tesco, because it will all look so different soon, the changes need to be recorded.

New college, new park, houses where the GEC was, shopping complex where the old Tesco stood , new cinema where Love2Love / Express was, Hungry Horse pub on the grassed area, the Guildhall will have to have some sort of a facelift in the next few years too in order to keep up with the changing environment, Shire hall / Library closed off to the public ?, the RBS moved and turned into a cafe if the artists drawings are to be believed ... and not forgetting that row of shops where the litten tree is being transformed and yates and popworld where the yard is too !

I've been saying this for a few years now, once the various housing developments are complete there will be lots more people, lots more cars, lots more issues.
I see little evidence the council is forward planning.

A bump for the map I made - and as ever a request if anything is missing.

Traveller site at Tollgate/Astonfields?*

New MOD housing?**

(I'm not sure of the exact boundaries for either, though.)

Hungry Horse on Newport Road?

New pub on Weston Road - although, part of the Beacon Park expansion, I suppose?

Ash Flats housing - if that goes ahead?

*Edit:- I see that's there - sorry.

**I assume that it's the site to the west of Beaconside, and a similar area to the east.

Places evolve, adapt / change constantly - Stafford has been no different. As long as these changes are additional and are sympathetic to the maintaining of the identity and history of the town, then I say, bring it on. The late 60s to mid 70s saw huge instrumental changes to the look and feel of Stafford that destroyed a lot of its history and character, which was so unnecessary. However, as long as these changes, and any in the future, don't replicate that, then I'm all for it.

I would if I did.

I imagine the Hungry Horse is the whole of the little field off the roundabout by the Rugby Club/Hollies. Lionel Blair's place is the green bit/tarmac opposite the old hospital, behind the existing old folks' place. The MOD stuff is, probably, the whole of the site to the west of Beaconside, but I have no idea about the eastern extent of it. The Ash Flats bit, I just have no real idea about.
