For anyone interested in local arts and crafts you might like to know that the annual Staffordshire Open Studios weekends are set for 17/18 and 24/25 September. These weekends give members of the public an opportunity to meet with semi-professional and professional artists who would ordinarily work behind closed doors.

Staffordshire Open Studios is a great way to appreciate art in the heart of where it's made, to understand the artist and to see the views and places that often give them their inspiration.

Spread throughout the County, participants of Open Studios cover a range of art disciplines from ceramics, felt making, painting, photography, sculptures and textiles. There will be more than 35 studios open over the course of the two weekends with no fewer than eight in and around the Stafford and Stone area: Barbara Meek, Freda Harris, Karl Whitfield, Lisa Henderson, Meg Farnden, Robin Ansell, Noel Bennett and Steven Eastwood will all be available at specified times.

For full details on opening times, contact details and maps to the various locations (and to request a free Staffordshire Enjoy Art brochure) please visit: http://www.staffordshireenjoyart.com/index.asp

Residents and visitors to Stafford are being invited to meet some of the area’s leading artists at a series of free Open Studios Weekends on 17th - 18th and 24th – 25th September, as part of Staffordshire’s Enjoy Art season.

Since 2002, Staffordshire Open Studios Weekends have seen thousands of people meet with artists and gain a unique insight into the techniques and inspiration behind the arts and crafts on display at artists’ Studios.

Visitors to Steven Eastwood’s studio will see a collection of work by the disabled sculptor, using one hand to form his art. A wide variety of different materials are used including stone, wood and resin Steven creates sculptures from busts to lifesize. Between 10:30am and 3:30pm on 24th – 25th September, Steven’s work will be on display at 10 Woodleyes Crescent, Wildwood.

Stafford based artist Freda Harris works with watercolour, mixed-media and acrylics to create experimental and rewarding art, inspired by changing weather and light conditions. Visitors can view her collection at 7 Hawkesmore Drive, Little Haywood on both Open Studios Weekends between 11am - 6pm on the Saturdays, and 11am – 5pm on the Sundays.

Artist Lisa Henderson will display her unique drawings and abstract, colourful paintings at her garden studio, between 2pm – 6pm, both Open Studios weekends. All of Lisa’s art is based on landscapes, including those of Staffordshire and her background as an art and design historian inspires her work. Other artists exhibiting during the Open Studios Weekends in Stafford include Barbara Meek, Robin Ansell and Meg Farnden.
