Staffordshire Place Shops

Does anyone have any thoughts / insider information as to what the shops are likely to be on the ground floor of the new County Council Staffordshire Place development in Tipping Street? Surely something is in the offing as the County Council is unlikely to want to open its new flagship development against the backdrop of boarded up units? With that in mind I wouldn’t be surprised if the rents on the units are massively reduced at least for the first 12 months just to get tenants in. Does anyone have any news?

On a related theme I read today that the Borough Council are currently looking into revamping the Civic Centre to create a new façade and walkway. Seems to me that they can do what they want with that building bit it will still essentially look monstrous.

I'm guessing a clone coffee shop, a sandwhich shop of some kind, and a bar. And they'll all get preferential treatment for a bit to ensure it all looks nice for the first year, and the other sandwhich shops will close (although I see the one on Mill street has already gone, and the pancake place too?).

I'll guess a Costas and Carphone Warehouse, yes i know those two have popped-up elsewhere but hey, this is a baby clone town we talking about here so something along those lines will have first dibs.

also, almost along the same sorta lines, i went to a Stafford council planning gathering type thing at the Gatehouse Theatre Monday evening (purely by chance as i was at the theatre to see Dave Gorman) and the plans they have regarding new builds such as houses and business units is just wrong, why can't Stafford hold tight and stay the size it is, some may say i'm a little backward with my thoughts regarding 'development opportunities' but Christ ona bike, we're gettin' rid the green space we need rather than cleaning up the grey space we have!

I have heard a rumor that there will be a New York Deli. Not sure if this is true but had heard that the Pie and Ale house were having one of the retail units, not sure how that will work but that's what I have heard

Although the passing trade would be better, can't see the p&a in a new building tbh. Current place has character.

Some money so we can buy cheap clothing. That actually is designed not to last.

The same goes for other retailers.

I remember the good old days circa 1968 Levi's were only £3 10 shillings. ( lot of money ) shrink to fit lasted years. made in America by Americans !!!!

Wish I had kept them. Even vintage replicas are £210.

The real ones from the 60's £500

Apparently, there will be a New York deli, a Newsagents / book shop (occupying 2 units), and a cake shop. One unit remains empty but there is a rumour that it could go for a restaurant / wine bar type of outlet - but thats only a rumour.

I'm half expecting a charity shop, though someone suggested today that there might be a Tesco Express or similar.

I've heard that Primark might go somwhere else, but can't say where, as it has yet to be officialy revealed! :ohno: , but you might be right, though I don't see where they could fit it in, and as course as someone scandilously broacasting on here, 'I am a fraudulent, dismissable, cognatively challenged, individual! :strange:

ps. Shhhhhhh! Not far away! head towards the water! But if asked, I will deny saying that!
