Reckless safety standards at the Copeland count.

Makes you wonder how safe Sellafield really is?

Labour didn’t win, UKIP lost. Nuttall lost the election by spouting too many lies. It should have been a walk in the park for him, but it turned into a walk in Hyde Park when he replaced Brian Jones in The Rolling Stones. He lost UKIP this seat and one wonders if the party will seek its third leadership election in a year.

Although I was hoping for a great win, I wasn't surprised by the UKIP defeat given the media storm that succeeded to discredit Mr Nuttall and his party. And yes, no doubt another leader is imminent. I feel completely let down by Nigel who I am certain would have won had he managed to retain the leadership.

You are joking, right?

The only useful thing our press can do is hold those in power or seeking power to account for their actions. This they did, very well in this instance.

Nuttall was brought down by his own lies and misdeeds, not by the press informing the public of them.

Not joking at all, the press is not a reporting tool, it is a sensationalist, scaremongering weapon that cannot be trusted to tell any truth.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Ah yes, the press made it all up about Nuttall lying about at Hillsborough.

Oh actually no they didn't. Nuttall did that himself.

Yep, you can't blame Native Americans for being unimpressed by immigration given their history. I suspect they would be even less impressed by the likes of Nuttall.

Do you consider all news agencies to be this way?
I suspect you mean "newspapers" and the TV news. News agencies like Reuters and the Press Association are usually fine, though there was a case a little while back of the Portuguese agency Lusa erroneously reporting that the McCanns had won a court case when in fact it had gone the other way (it is suspected that the McCanns' lawyer had deliberately fed them duff information).

The main role of the newspapers is to package (or spin) a story, usually from New Agencies, but often from PR agencies, in a way that fits in with their readership. They don't have the time to go delving into the facts. Their job is to present the story in such a way that their readership will keep buying their newspaper. More fool us if we do.

Anyone interested should have a read of "Flat Earth News" by Nick Davies. I'm sure I've seen it in Stafford Library, at least I did before it moved.
