Shit me what a storm! I risked it and went outside to get an unobstructed view - well worth it. soaked now.

I love storms, they look great, sound great, smell great!

My brother's house once got hit by lightning and his telly blew up - literally. No one was in the room at the time thankfully.

True story.

I saw a tree struck when I was about nine - jagged, burning lumps of timber about the size of railway sleepers were hurled about the place - not standing under trees in thunderstorms is good advice....

Unplugging your aerial might be wise too - especially if you're off on holiday.

Where would one be best placed to view storms in Stafford?

Barr Beacon always used to be my fav spot but a little far now.

I imagine Castle Hill would be a good place - high up but next to a higher thing?

Not tried it myself but it sounds like it might make sense?

When I was a child a friend got struck by lightning and killed while waiting at a bus stop, so it kind of freaks me out. My puppy didn't like it either - he was barking like mad, and the cat hid under the bed.

Lightning deaths in the UK are on a downward trend, apparently - usually around four a year these days - this may be due to less people working in agriculture, etc - it was around 20 at the beginning of the last century.
