"Silly young folk, having ideas about the future and how they can change stuff n thinking they know better about you know, stuff, like their life, their bodies, animals and animal's bodies, creating and improving empathy and well being for themselves and aiming it at others, bunch of soddin veeguns.
Showing us what they've done and what they are doing and what we can do, you know, and stuff.

Well speaking as a 54 he old father of 3, who turned vegan 5 wks ago, you are spouting Billhooks! Let them get on with their choice, don't listen to the programme. Iive & let live! I have never evangelised about my choice of what to eat; if someone asks me I will explain why.

I very much value others opinions as long as it is done sensitively. If I believe they are spouting twaddle, I they reckon they will be found out, and I have nothing to fear. Your diatribe reminds me of the times I have been at weddings, and when the staff come round saying "who has ordered a vegetarian option", I have then been rounded on by someone at the table, and had to explain why I am a veggie! They then usually go on to deliver a lecture, as to why my choice is unnatural, harmful and unhealthy! I wonder if they 'protest too much'? If I am so doomed let me get on with it, I am no danger to you. Damn me for having the audacity to choose a different way of existing, and then speak about it, even if I have been invited to!.

I welcome this alternative view point, I follow it. If people disagree why do you read/listen to it? (If you have listened to the link?!) This is a forum and if you disagree you are right to question it, but as a senior member of society I consider "Silly young folk, having ideas about the future and how they can change stuff n thinking they know better about you know, stuff, like their life, their bodies, animals and animal's bodies, creating and improving empathy and well being for themselves and aiming it at others, bunch of soddin veeguns.

One has to suspect that @1JKz was being deliberately provocative, possibly even satirical, if not sarcastic...

I didn't actually listen to it, as the Food Programme is usually a bit too twee for me, but it could be that it was all a little Sunday Supplement, perhaps?

Only bit he got completely wrong is that I am a life long labour supporter & voter; and despite my advanced years, or is that because of them, admire JC, and whilst unsure at first have been won round. Yes I hadn't read in detail every post on the thread. I reacted to perceived ignorance. He is right, I swallowed it hook line & sinker! You imagine a life growing up as one of my sons! Currently 16, 21 & 24; living with this old crusty who doesn't get their sense of humour. Frightening !!!! And no I didn't vote for Brexit, the idiots who did let young people down badly, they should hang their heads. If we knew what we know now, the whole crock of sh1t would have been consigned to the bin. JC has a chequered history in Euro regards; but if the Tories are advocating it, particularly Gove & Johnson, it's a no brainer for me. Hope that clears that up! Some crinklies use a ;) when being deliberately ironic or sarcastic. it helps us by signposting the intention to the reader, I believe the use of such tools is so last year, or older! Note for self, stop using imogies, attempt to get in tune with the vibe and communicate with young cats in their chosen ways! ;)

I'm not a great fan of emojis but because there are no visual or aural signals in written text, they're pretty much essential when trying to be sarcastic. So carry on using them. And don't take too much notice of the "younge [sic] cats" - they like watching things like 'Geordie Shore', 'The Only Way Is Essex' and 'Just Tattoo Of Us' so shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Had a meal in Verso Saturday night, after the lights, i love the place.
It looked pleasantly busy last Sunday when I walked past at 11:15am - busy, but not crowded, unlike the cake shop opposite which looked deserted.

D'ya go in (either), take any pictures?
Nah .... I was on a mission to get Mrs Mikinton's birthday present and card.

I'm afraid eating lunch in town isn't my thing as I've always got the contents of a decent sandwich just 15 minutes drive away, so there doesn't seem much point.

My middle son has been a vegetarian most of his life, following his mum & dad, who have not eaten anything with eyes* for 30 years; he became a Vegan over 12 months ago. Jeremy Corbin said recently when addressing a group of Vegans, and declared if wasn't for Lacto cheese he would be a Vegan. This set me thinking, I knew by drinking animal milk I was being a fraud. I did some reading and found what a fraudulent activity I was involved in! Factory Farming. I bit the bullet and haven't really looked back, certainly don't regret it. I eat plenty, am even more careful on what I put in my mouth, (oo" er missus Ed) The Venerable Mrs Seed was concerned I would loose even more weight, but I have only only lost a couple of pounds! I have also had difficulties with tiredness after my serious head injury 9.5 years ago, I take B12 supplements and have not noticed any difference to my sleep or physical exercise
tolerance. I run 5-6 miles 3-4 times a week and cycle 15 miles to work and back 5 days a week!

JC was almost right about Vegan cheese, before I converted I thought it was plastic pap, but probably due to the change in my taste buds, I find it acceptable:- barely! but I don't buy it!

(*What about Potatoes? Ed)

Yes, I wondered where you vegans get your vitamin B12. Is it a case of supplements or fortified foods, or is there something a bit more natural that you can eat in reasonable quantities?

gon2seed

(and me! - Ed)
Yep take tablets, but its in Soya milk and quite a few manufactured vegan foods have B12 added to 'em!

I take B12 also.
As for Soy milk, that was my go to milk alternative when i first started out, now i've since found it ain't the best thing to put in your body in large quantities (by large i mean in the same quantity i was; cow's milk), but the variety out there is immense and it's great trying to find the few that are worthy of a dribble over my cereal and in my coffee, each morning.
I can't get enough of Almond milk and Cashew milk.

Sounds like you're pretty fit to me (rumours aside, ha) and you'll find that a number of athletes are vegan, so we're in a nice comfy boat, if you ask me.
It's usually the brain dead fat gymaphobe meat heads that say going vegan's not good for you, bless em.

Where'd you get your B12 @Mikinton

Oh, the usual places ..... meat, dairy products, that sort of thing, ..... though I don't eat fish, cheese or eggs (as in fried, scrambled, poached etc) as I was put off them as a child.

As regards fitness, as long as what goes in is balanced, I don't believe it makes a whole lot of difference whether or not it's a vegan/veggie diet. (I was going to say something about Forest Green Rovers not exactly setting League 2 alight, but as their recent record is quite good, maybe I won't. ;) )
