The brown jug closed a few years Ago at Bishops Offley. Ozzie Osbourne used get pissed up there in 1969-71 when he lived at New Inn Bank. He then moved to Bullrush Cottage in Butt Lane Ranton with his wife Thelma, creating havoc around the Hand and Cleaver when he returned from his tours in USA.

The Romping Cat was in Gnosall. If you take the A518 out to Gnosall, the last building on the left before you come to the mini roundabout has a small sign above the door: The Romping Cat.

I have a friend in a band - I am sure I went to see him play at The Brown Jug at Bishop's Offley not too many years ago.

I have to disagree, he could have been referring to The Romping Cat which is the locals name for a Stafford / Stone pub - you'll know where it is if you drink in it!

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
The Romping Cat ( in my world ) is The Red Lion just outside Milwich

Barrels of beer on the bar

Women running out of the ladies with their knickers around their ankles - being chased by chickens

That kind of pub

Often the pub sign was taken down - the only evidence that the pub existed ( it looked like a little tired farm cottage ) when we had a lock in

Marvelous

@sandonia There certainly was a pub called The Romping Cat in Gnosall, it still carries that name, and stands as a big white house on the bank going into Gnosall on the A518 between the two garages, just before the BT Telephone Exchange. In the 80's I remember going into the cellar there which had been turned into a woodworking shop, operated by Edward Scott, whose parents owned the property.

"Romping Cat" is a standard nickname for any pub called the Red Lion, usually a locals comment on the abilities of the sign painter.
