The Dunkability of the Modern Biscuit

Just wondered. Has anyone else noticed that these days biscuits cannot be dunked for more than a second? The disintegrate if you leave them in longer! Custard creams seem to be the biggest offenders.

Cow Biscuits!

Are they still made in Uttoxeter or is that a housing estate now?

I don't know, but Stafford now has their own version.

Fats, salts etc.... it all must affect the whole dunkability issue. I remember when custard creams took a fair dunking. Now they're pathetic and I dont even notice them slide down my throat as they've pretty much liquidized. The motion from dunk to mouth also has to be lightning fast.

For anyone that's never watched it, here's Peter Kay's take on biscuits. Extremely funny. :)

On another note, I have constant arguments with my wife about biscuits. I keep trying to explain to her that they are packaged the way they are because it's a serving that should be eaten once opened. She begs to differ. Some rubbish about "a couple"? :blah:

Bourbons are by far the beat dunkers - they hold together well

Everything else falls apart after approximately 0.5 seconds... And losing half a biscuit in your cuppa is not a good thing!

I just dont get the satisfaction from eating a packet of Bourbon's though.

My favourites are....
Fruit shorties - got to be fast!
Milk chocolate hob nobs - they handle it well
Maryland cookies - they do a little better than custard creams, but aren't without mishaps.

Are we SERIOUSLY talking about biscuits??!!! I thought only I understood them so well. :D

EDIT:- Just to add, those Maryland twin packs also count as 1 serving ;)

They're actually the one biscuit that I'm happy to eat without necessarily dunking, but also just about the only biscuit where I don't attempt a full serving.

While we're talking biscuits, we've recently started to try some of the Lidl "Tower Gate" versions of branded types. I've been quite impressed.
Their milk chocolate digestives seem a bit sweeter than the top brand, but are nice. The chocolate hob-nobs copy are a bit harder if eaten dry, but dunk well and taste just as good at 59p. Custard creams and Bourbon creams equally as good as Asda's, and they're cheaper. The Bourbon's are also a significantly bigger packet too (I mean, serving). Worth trying if you never have.

At the risk of starting the biggest flaming-war in this forum's history, I have to agree with @wmrcomputers :D
And me, can't stand bourbons, or custard creams. Chocolate digestives or hobnobs, chocolate or plain. You can dunk a chocolate digestive for a full 6 seconds without it breaking up.

I'm going to dunk a 'nice' biscuit in my hot chocolate, I'll report later on the dunkability
