The last five blocks of the IP Version 4 addresses have been handed over to the regional bodies that distribute them.

Those five blocks, called /8s and which contain 16 million addresses each, are expected to be completely depleted by September 2011.

Even after reading the story in that link, I still have no idea what it means. So what happens when all the addresses are depleted and there's a gap before the new version is available? No new websites..?

then we use ipv6 instead of ipv4 which has been suggested for well over a year but no one has done anything about it. Here is the wiki approach on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6

However my story on it is here is a difference between the too if you own a copy of windows xp for example if you click start then type in the following in the run window

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

you will get star wars done in ascii and it will be in ipv4 which will make it black and white, now download ipv6 available via microsoft.com or google is your friend. once you have ipv6 then that same link will happen via means of ascii in colour.

If that needs translating into to everyday speech i will try and convert
