The future of town centers? - Discussion

250,000th poster!
I do not need you or anyone else to tell me what to say or how to say it. Unlike most others on this board I do have opinions of my own, I am a leader not a follower.

Nothing is to be achieved by humour. Jokes are suitable for playgrounds or comedy clubs, not discussion forums, although a number of individuals on here seem unable to tell the difference.

And for your information I have never been made redundant, I am in full time employment, as I have been every day of my working life since leaving university, unlike many of the population of Stafford I have no problem with holding down a full-time job. I have no axe to grind with anyone. My mission is simply to rescue Stafford from the crisis in which it has been put. But unlike most on here, I do more than just talk.
You seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time moaning on here for someone in full-time employment!

Please clarify if you would like this statement to be considered. As stated earlier I can only think of 2 or 3 members of this board who have ever put their money where their mouth is and took a personal risk on Stafford town center, I have never seen evidence that you are one of them.

As for your crap about holding down a job, you're acting the nob again. When people think you're a nob they start to disregard things you say even if they have an element of intelligence, try not to be a nob?

I'm sure hopesdad has a wonderful job, way better than us peasants, and has secretaries to do his work so he doesn't have to demean himself and can instead tell people on the internet what to do all day.

Really?

Rather than ignore him or feed him, I just want him to be honest (assuming he is a male). He paints himself as some kind of crusader for Stafford but then brings no proof of anything he is actually doing. It's time for him to put up or shut up, rather than hiding behind his keyboard. I will happily meet him and forego any of the anonymity he is hiding behind. He is either a potentially useful member of the new Stafford or a boring, aggressive bully. I hope it's not the latter.

You can never reason with or rationalise a troll. A troll is a troll. Surely even the most understanding forumites have worked that one out.

I don't think he's a troll, He just sounds like a grumpy old man who likes to complain but do nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm no big fan of Stafford, I think the powers that be could do a lot better than they do, much much better, and I will be following all my friends and family and leaving as soon as my situation allows,, but I try not to dismiss everything all the other posters write in such an offhand way!!!!

If you want jokes, go to a joke site. This is supposed to be a forum for serious discussion.

Where on Earth did you get that idea?? This is the second time that you have stated your opinion as if it were Forum Rules, and both times you have been wrong.

By all means join in, it's good to have as many different points of view as possible round here - and I dare say I agree with some of the points you make, if not the way in which you make them - but try and tone down the negativity, eh? And probably best if you stop trying to make the rules; you don't seem terribly good at it so far. ;)

This forum can be anything it's members want it to be by how they post.

Well, there's a much better stab at it.

Or those who work in healthcare, that work every weekend.

To get slightly back on topic ....

Oh I work with the emergency services, so I'm familiar with the set up ... I was just generally under the impression that I'm in the minority :P

WHEN, are you going to publish your costed policies and stand for election. If you win, you will be able to "rescue Stafford from this crisis"! Go on! Don't just talk on here all day - do something about it. Lead!

He'll have had plenty of time to formulate a detailed, costed and considered reply to your post whilst being banned, I'm sure. No doubt he'll be eager to share this and enlighten us all once the ban is lifted.

Yeah I agree in some ways, but we should not turn our backs on towns, they are a good way of meeting people, a lot of people still do like going shopping, but a lot more needs to be done, when M & S & the co op closed/moved they places should have been bulldozed, they could have been used for temporary parking until something better is found for them, not leave them to rot.
Are they rotting. Who is to pay for the bulldozing .? Be practical.

I was impressed with the wide choice of products at the Range yesterday. The store was pretty busy but I thought how much busier it would be if it was located in what was going to be Morrisons. There was talk of Lidl relocating there due to the new road being put in.
I would have thought the Council could facilitate a strategy to bring outlying retail units into the town.

I won't go near the range, they use slave labour (people on the dole forced to work there for free despite being told there is no chance of employment).

Is this actually true? Or an urban myth??
100% true, I know one of their ex slaves. Told on the first day not to get any ideas as there were no actual jobs for them to apply for regardless of how things went, but they'd get sanctioned if they refused to work. The person in question already has years of retail experience making it pointless, unless you're the one getting free slaves obviously.
