I am a big fan of the place but agree about the issues with regards to young children. I was in there a few weeks ago having a burger which was as always spot on, when the family on the table next to me decided they needed to change the babies nappy. They did this right in front of my very eyes!!! Utterly disgusting and completely out of order. I gave them a long hard stare and quickly moved round the other side of the bar. I know the bar staff work extremely hard and are always busy but surely this behaviour should be totally unacceptable and the family in question be told to leave? Would be nice to know peoples thoughts on this.
That is vile!!! I would have asked them to stop :urgh:

That is rank :(

I was in there with a new mother recently. Her baby needed changing and there was nowhere to do it in the pub, so she finished up eating quickly then left to go do it in Costa instead. You can't do that where people are eating!

I just think people need to take responsibilities for their actions and how that impacts on people around them. Unfortunately it appears to be lost on some. If you have young children, I don't think the MV is an appropriate place to take them.

Depends on the age. I've been taking my OHs daughter in there for years, she's 11 now. I'd also have no issues with a kid of any age, as long as they behaved. If they didn't I'd leave. I don't see it as a kid problem, I see it as a parent problem. There are plenty of adults only pubs in Stafford, most of the best ones in fact. If the MV stopped kids going I'd certainly be in there less.

If you want an adults only place for a beer try the Market Square, the Shrewsbury Arms or the Rose & Crown for example - no kids allowed in any. We usually have a drink or 2 after my OH finishes work on a Saturday, so usually between around 3 and 5pm. Every other week we have her daughter with us, and it's usually either the Floodgate or the Market Vaults we go to depending on if we want food.

Hi, I've ran this joint for 4 years. I don't have children, I don't particularly like children, I prefer dogs. I run my bar and restaurant in this way. Dogs are welcome, children aren't catered for - no high chairs no kids menu. That said, other people like children and bring them with them.

If I had been on shift I would have had a quiet word, but I don't worry about this issue in general as very few children enter our establishment. It's not that kind of place.

I'm sorry you felt uncomfortable in this instance and I'll endeavour to keep atop any future similar situations.

On the few times we've taken Master Wearn into the Market Vaults (and we are also grateful @The Market Vaults are tolerant when we do this) I've always changed him in the loos (as I would have done in any place irrespective of if it has a baby change unit or not) Stuff like this pisses me off, and I've never know any one of my friends to change their babies in public in such a way.

Grandson is changed in the toilets if babychanging facilities aren't available, we carry a small changing mat in his bag in case this is necessary.

Agreed.
Quite apart from the inconsiderate action there's also the public health/hygiene aspect of changing ashitty nappy in an area where food is served-consumed. Nice to think the hands that handled that nappy then probably touched the table etc.
