PS. £40 per person for a meal is just shameful! Charging that kind of money just for a meal in the current climate is shameful, they deserve to fail! That's just greedy.

To want a business to fail because they charge £40 is ridiculous and frankly sounds like sour grapes.

Not everyone is suffering from the effect of the recession and anyway how they choose to spend their money is up to them.

Personally I can't remember the last time we went to a pub just to have a drink, we rarely go out so when we do we choose to go somewhere nice.

Also how else are they to pay the staff and the overheads?

Was that comment about "£40 for a meal is shameful" ^^ serious? I thought it was tongue in cheek.....

If serious then I find it an incredible stance to take. If people are willing to pay £40 for a meal, good luck to them. I wouldn't personally but its a free world and its not like they are mugging grannies for the money, people pay it of their own free will, or don't.

As I say though, if it was tongue in cheek, I totally knew all along :D

(Darnit, what happened to the "Yo girlfriend" smiley.... I think DB or Tek have used it before but it seems to have gone now :( )

Hothouse Flower, if somewhere isn't upmarket enough for you, move to somewhere that is rather than looking down on those you live with.

Shame on you for been such a superior snob.

Like wolvo? ;)

If people are happy to pay this then it makes good business sense to charge it, if they aren't then they will go out of business. it's their risk, let them take it. I'll pay £40 for a meal, but prob only once or twice a year.[/quote]

There are some very posh bits in Wolverhampton. Where we live isn't one, but the folk who live there don't care and neither do we, everyone we've met is friendly so all's good. No-one has been, stabbed, robbed, beaten up, arrested, blown up or murdered in our street since we've been here so we are quite happy lol.

Same here :)

When I moved to Southampton the locals were shocked I moved to what they considered the second worst neighbourhood in the city, but I loved it there :)

It just took me a good 5 mins to work out where your sig was from LAFB. Once I remembered I googled to be sure, and realised whilst correct it was also around way before then, and was based on a quote from a book I've never read that seems to resemble the film idiocracy (The Marching Morons).

You really do learn something new every day!

I went to the Post House for the first time on Sunday, specifically to indulge in the cocktail selections.
The cocktails themselves were excellent, as were the staff who weren't afraid to make recommendations or adjust recipes to suit.
They were pricey, but this wasn't a surprise and the Post House is definitely a place I'd visit occasionally for a treat, not weekly.
Shame about the volume of music in the club area though... the number of people who crammed into the bar away from the dance floor because the volume was just unbearable spoke for itself really.

I recognise LAFB's signature from a sample in a song by a band called Mr Bungle...

I must say the Post House is growing on me. My first impressions weren't great to be honest but I'm actually starting to go in there quite regularly now. I like the ambiance in the place and think its a great t go for a chat, especially in the day. Also I think the staff are really good too. Maybe its just me but I like politeness and being called sir makes a nice change! Other establishments should take note, however many in Stafford are getting much better I must say, maybe its because I'm becoming an old git...

As for the food, well I havent tried that yet due to my other half being a bit fussy on what she will eat. That said £40 for a meal is OK as long as I as you get quality food and great service. Ive paid £70+ for a meal in a chinese for 2 in the past so I dont think its that crazy as a once in a while treat...

Chris,
Rumours always do the rounds and ooh....what's that saying?... It's better to be talked about than not being talked about.

i'd be surprised if that's the case - every time i'm in there (mid-week) it's rammo!

Hothouse Flower, if somewhere isn't upmarket enough for you, move to somewhere that is rather than looking down on those you live with.

what? no part of hothouse flower's post suggested that - she simply said she would like more "swan" style places over fast-food joints :?:

Shame on you for been such a superior snob.

ironic, given that your missus just called all staffordians "downmarket folk"

so, you think there should be a cut-off point for foods prices, regardless of quality/ingredients used/effort to prepare/skill of chef/restaurant ambiance/etc?

excellent idea.. you should run for PM.. if you weren't so ANGRY ALL THE TIME

I don't remember calling anyone downmarket and as Wolfenrook and myself are different people we have different views and opinions as well as similar ones. So what I say isn't necessarily anything to do with him, and vis versa.

For us £40 is a shocking amount for a meal, maybe it isn't for you. I'm still pee'd off by the original comments made as to the Post House's intended clientel. It wasn't intended for locals remember. As for service, well from the reports they've picked up the pace somewhat, good for them.

Edit for the above post but i was too slow.
Aha, i see where you got that from. Most staffordians is what i said and there was probably a context to make a point to that, that i can't remember right now. Probably the point i was trying to make is that most people don't fit other peoples criteria for going into the post house. If you do so happily then you either fit that criteria or you don't give a damn and good for you. I'll be bowing out of this thread now as i've made my point, agreed with or not lol.
