The RAF Harrier Question.

Haven't managed to spot a thread on this so far....

I was talking to the bloke at MOD Stafford who has the task of sorting out the problem of the Harrier. (Apparently he got the job by being the last to shout "Bagsy not me!")

The MOD want shut of it, but the council can't think of a place to put it.

How about on the roof of the council building?

they had talked about plonking it at the roundabout at the top end of town, by the gaol. but concerns about vandalism seem to have put a dampener on that plan. in a little town like stafford it's difficult to suggest an appropriate site where it'll be appreciated. the only place i can think that has space and it won't be destroyed by pissheads is the county showground.

ah... in the middle of gaol square "peace garden". yes, that was an obvious place to put a massive weapon wasn't it?

another idea is to put it slap bang in the middle of lichfield road, and finish off the job of totally stuffing up the traffic flow.

According to the paper the other day (can't remember which one now, might have been Express and Star) it looks like the Gaol Island idea has definitely been scrapped due to "lack of public support"
