The Stoke-on-Trent Stage
Thursday 13th September 2012
Stoke-on-Trent celebrates five years of The Tour of Britain visiting the Potteries on Thursday 13th September, as, appropriately, Stage Five of the 2012 Tour starts and finishes in the city, but with a new look route leading to a new city centre finish.
Like 12 months previously, the race will depart from the beautiful surrounds of the Italian Gardens on the Trentham Estate, but instead of turning left on exiting the estate this year the route turns right, crossing the A34 and then taking back roads to Barlaston and Stone.
The route passes just across the Trent & Mersey Canal from the Wedgwood Estate and factory that has featured in the closing stages of the leg for the previous three years.
Stone once again hosts the opening Yodel Sprint of the stage, but this year beyond the town centre on Lichfield Road, as the race takes a different approach through the town.
Following the Yodel Sprint the race continues along the Trent Valley, parallel to the river and canal, crossing them both in the village of Sandon and on to the outskirts of Stafford. Stage Five follows the A513 passing by MOD Stafford and Staffordshire University and through Baswich to return to the A34.

At Sandon - 11.00

Basics - 11.13

Am I right in saying there should be some fairly famous names taking part in this?

My Dad did mention it to me but I didn't realise it actually came through Stafford (Just).

Just waiting for some grumpy old sod to post that it will cause traffic chaos and that they should race around a track instead :)

The race will be coming through Stafford at 10-11.30, that's hardly rush hour.

Will be some nice places to stand and watch over Chase road brocton. Or at the Chet along the A34 (where they turn into Sawpit Lane).
