One thing I can be certain on is my memory is utterly rubbish and getting rubbishier

But wasnt it the car mechanic Mr Clayton who hailed from the Eccleshall hamlet?

Len served in the RN and was reported missing presumed dead, however jill (stan's wife) noticed odd things in the harvey household and then len revealed himself....

Not sure how much of this is urban legend or true but I remember reading that troops stationed on the Falklands referred to the locals as "Benny's" until it became public and they were instructed not to use this term.

They then chose "stills" which meant "still Benny's"

I understood that they were then referred to as 'nots' - as in 'not bennies', Sir.
