I don't really agree with Valentines Day, bit like Mothers Day n Fathers Day, just a reason for the shops to sell overpriced stuff, which will be half price the next day. But, if someone wanted buy me roses n chocolates, ply me with wine and try have their wicked way with me, I wouldn't object.

I washed the other half's car!
I thought to myself what does he love most in the world (me?) Oh yes his car!
3 hours of washing, polishing and hoovering it still looks like a pile-o -junk!

I was told by Mrs Trumpet last night that if I'd have bought every bunch of flowers from ASDA's reduced section she would have been mightily impressed by my financial initiative. I didn't, so she wasn't. Took her to the Swan at Forton though which did impress because she dislikes Valentine menus and being told what she can eat.
Rib eye steaks were superb.
Obviously, she will have been paying, Birthday Boy...?

I brought the lovely Goldilox some art from http://www.facebook.com/TheGooseFactory - The lovely Goldilox brought me heart shaped Chocolates & Jacob's Creek Fizz (there's a reason for this). Tomorrow he will cook the traditional '3 course fancy meal that's his job because one our first St. Valentine's together he forgot to book a table) - (tonight he's running Jam night @ Joxers) I love traditions.

I think these holidays are important - it's a little chance to take a day out, spend a bit of time together and think about the person you're in a relationship with. The same with Mother's day and Farther's day - just a chance to shine a tiny spot light on something important in your life and celebrate it.

Today I again saw a happy valentines day card to a grandson, do people really buy these?

Yes, they do. I used to work in a card shop in Liverpool - all those random sickly sweet cards sell out super quickly - only a few companies make them (good reason, because they are wrong) I tried to ask a few people why they were buying them (including aunite, gran, mum, sister etc) and always got blank stares back, or "because I always have" as a response.

My year of working in a card shop confirmed to me that people are for the most part unthinking idiots - who are easily distracted by licensed characters and glitter.
