Lights on Sunday night
I hear it is to reopen in mid March as a £4 carvery. Graham Andrews ex Albion, Snooker Club, Hop Pole has apparently purchased the lease. Catering Manager ex Holmcroft and Ash Tree Armitage.
It may not be a pub as we know it??
Any one heard this?

Overheard it verbatim in the King's Arms last night. Might have been you - it was a darts committee meeting!

I've heard the same from a very reputable source. I've not been there for yonks, but the re-opening of any proper boozer is grand as far as i'm concerned...

Went in the Barley Mow with approx 10 other friends a couple of weeks back on a Sunday Afternoon. Used to like the place, but was throughly disappointed.

Customer Service behind the bar was clearly lacking, although the waitress kept it friendly. Food was poor, very poor. And even mis-selling on the puddings. How can they advertise chocolate pancakes and then give us ONE pancake!!!

In the Arms.

Could be could be possibly or could be could be an assumption or could be that source is incorrect, perhaps Doxey people know more.

Anyway
Have you heard that the Rifleman is a thing of the past.
Just heard that it has been bought by one of the factories who want the land.

Perhaps Judith Dalgano will try to stop this as she likes old buildings, oh no it's a pub and she doesn't care about those

Did you complain to them.....
We mentioned it to the waitress, who didn't seem to care much.

Wagon and Horses now open 'til 9pm doing carveries and the usual pub grub etc.

Looks very nice, clean and spacious inside there now.

Report in the Express & Star 13 June. Graham Andrews of the Hop Pole has bought the freehold. Nephew and Niece Dave and Shareen Andrews are running the Hop Pole.
Also reported that the Telegraph freehold is up for sale. I had heard it closed when Lee Clamp left, and then that Caroline Hedges from the Rose and Crown was the new licensee/manager. Hope it's not going to be another will it stay open or will it not.

anyone got the phone number for the waggon & horses? a quick google renders the following:

01785 257836
01785 223834
01785 785981

but they all say either "number unavailable" or "number is not accepting calls".. is there any way to phone them, or are they trying to stay off the grid? :strange:

...I think Gordon Ramsay may need to make a visit.

The only marketing I've seen is that ghost story in the Post. And by the looks of it, it seems to be working... I went in last week and it was like the Mary Celeste. I really hope they have some luck with it, as I feel they could do much better.

usually place have a soft opening for a while to work out any kinks before going all out on a marketing campaign to draw attention.

Joined today. I have been in the Wagon and Horses for a meal twice in the last week. Gave them a second chance as they have only just reopened, If they want to stay open they will have to improve, meal not really appetising. They run out of vegetables and we had to wait
for more the roast spuds when we got them looked as if they were boiled and then deep fried. No beer licence they said untill at least christmas so only selling bottled and cans. Not doing coffee. Not very comfortable surroundings and no where to sit and relax after. But I am sure they will get sorted.
