Warning To Malwarebytes / Avg Users

Anyone using Malwarebytes, please DO NOT upgrade to / install AVG 2011. There is a really bad conflict which freezes your system and is difficult to return to a previous state without a re-install of Windows in the worse cases.

AVG and Malwarebytes are both aware of the problem, but it's crashing thousands of computers meantime.

I will update this thread when they resolve the problem.

Thanks wmrcomputers, I know a lot of our users use both applications, so this is a very useful piece of advice!

Cheers admin.

@AndyST17 - If you are only using the free version of Malwarebytes you might be OK. Most of the problems are (i believe so far) to do with the resident protection side of things (which isn't included with Malwarebytes free)

Seriously - UNINSTALL ONE! If you leave it with both then it will reach a point where you are forced to do a system restore and then that is where your problems will REALLY kick in. If it's running ok now, then grab your chance. Choose which to keep and which to get rid of. Unfortunately, no you can't go back to AVG 9.

If you decide to keep Malwarebytes, then you will need to uninstall it before you can smoothly uninstall AVG - Then put Malwarebytes back on afterwards! Any problems in doing so, then uninstall MWB while running in safe mode, and reboot normally to remove AVG 2011.

Personally, I would recommend never letting an AVG install set within 100 yards of your computer.
Based on the problems I've had with it on various machines.

I've never had major problems until this happened. It's still one of the worlds most vastly used and trusted free anti-virus solutions.

I never recommend anyone "pays" for full versions as there isn't enough to gain in doing so compared to the free version.
I'd possibly dump your MWB for now (as it's them that will probably do something about this in the near future), and then re-install it as soon as they release a "fixed" version that runs ok with AVG 2011. (hopefully within the next few weeks)

If you have a red M (Malwarebytes) icon in the system tray by the clock, then probably the full. If not, then it's just the free.
If you go into MWB and there's a REGISTER button towards the bottom left of the window then you know it's just the free version

just go into add/remove programs and un-install malwarebytes until further notice then Andy. As soon as it's time to re-install you'll be able to install the free and it will come back on as full version again ;)
