WASPS! Help needed

Wasps - feel my wrath!
Hi peeps well the late spring summer invasion has happened again we have found a wasps nest in the shed .We had a huge one last year and had to get the council to come and get rid of it but it cost a fair bit . So rather than do that again wondering if anyone had any kit spray fog or whatever for getting rid of the pesky little buggers ?

Or perhaps someone green knows if anything else can be done ..leaving the nest where it is NOT an option ! so they are either going to get gassed or something might be able to be done to save em ..

Any idears ?

Hpw ever you get rid of the wasps - try and keep the nest because next year a new colony wil not nest within sight of the old one.

You reckon Doc?
I wish someone would tell that to our wasps, it's about 3 feet from where it was last year!
But is the old nest still there or did the council take it away?

OK, you got me, I didn't read your last post properly. Sorry.

The old nest was a bit soggy after the treatment and I think they took it away, I wasn't here when the wasps were "taken out" so not really sure.

At the moment the nest is only about the size of a tennis ball which is why we want to try and destroy it before it becomes the size of a "Jonny Wilkinson" as it did last year and then it's just plain scary!

We're actually looking at buying a new shed and it's going to metal, that should stop 'em coming back next year! :slayer:

i love all gods creatures, especially on the BBQ, but i draw the line at bees and wasps. last year i found a hive, like a wee chinese lantern in the shed, it got burned with hairspray and a lighter.earlier this month i opened the shed to get the grass cutter and there was a bigger one in the same place as the previous.

its not there now, but if you want my advice dont swing the spade on its edge cos sheds aren't made out of the same good heavy wood they used to be. I have to get some felt now to plug the slice in the roof, but the bees are gone...until next year.

I did put a jam jar full of water on the rabbit hutch with some jam round the top. This is meant to attract the bees and then they fall into the water. It didn't work either

PLEASE don't kill the bees - they are suffering enough at the moment. They are vital to our own survival as they polinate just about everything we eat or the things that are eaten by the things we eat. Local bee keepers will be more than happy to come along and take a bee colony off your hands (try http://www.nsbka.freeserve.co.uk for a local apiarist). They won't sting unless provoked and they're facinating. At the moment they're sufering from all sorts of problems from invading giant hornets to Colony Colapse Disorder (strange that organic bees arn't suffering this at all!). So pleae, don't kill the bees.

Wasps are a bit more fair game. They do, however, feast on many garden pests and rotting veg to help the cycle of life. It's just they're a bit arsy in autumn when they seem to get pissed on rotting fruit then start stinging people for no good reason "Did you spill my rotting apple!" You can now buy fake wasps nests to hang over your picnic table to discourage wasps! http://www.greenfingers.com/superstore/product.asp?pf_id=LS2001D

if it makes you feel any better mine were giant hornets, and they were american. I have tried to feel guilty about killing them, but it doesn't work, i feel great.

I have a love / hate relationship with bees and wasps, i.e. love bees and hate wasps.

So, yes I'll add to the appeal to find help to deal with any bees humanely.

As for any wasps, exterminate, exterminate...........

Well it's come to the tolling bell time for the wasp family I'm afraid . The nest is getting bigger and we are going to have to just kill em unless someone has an idea ..last minute reprieve sort of thing ...they will be gone in the next few days otherwise

..the clock is ticking.....

Thanks for trying ..obliged to you for that ..but looks like them go to big nest in sky which is fairly reassuring I must admit ..now ..how to get rid ?..like the hairspray /lighter idea but
a) would have to run under the nest to get out of the shed
b) would have to run pretty bluumin fast I think too

or ..hmm get the council in .. probs for the best .. but all that beer money !..bugger

Right then.. call this foolish but have decided to take up the doctors advice on this one and leave it be( no pun!) So the nest is now continuing to swell and hopefully if it leaves us alone we will leave it alone .working on the idea that if we leave it no other nests will form there . I am just hoping it doesn't get any bigger than a football or i'm burning down the shed with the wasps in it!

Karmaically (sp?) speaking this should put us in the good books with all gods creatures and may even make a few Buddhists smile and send good vibes our way .

It' s an experiment and will keep everyone posted

Yes they will keep coming back ;) it just might be an ideal spot for them shed for shade, protection etc...is their any gardens (or your own) with tons of flowers? I have never in my entire (15 year) life seen a wasp / bee next and i didn't realise one day their really small the next they grow xD! but if you leave it for to long it might go even bigger!! Leaving it is an alright idea :D!

Now for my  idea!!
As they are wasps bees are no good > wasps beat > bees (bees are less, die on one sting)
Get another ONE or TWO nests then throw them in the shed it will be a mini wasp war (record it on a cam muhahahahahaha) then they will all fight each other and die (3 nests in to warn others away) who likes my idea :P?

A resurrection of the thread time folks! the resurrection wasp shuffle if you will !

A very weird thing has happened !

They have all buggered off ! Honest!

One minute wasps as you would find burning tourists on a beach in benidorm and then .. naff all!:strange:

So what happened ?

They moved house is what's happened ! .They have left their nest and began setting up residence in the airbricks at the front of our humble domicile ! Scary? blummin right !

So am afraid it's Karma out the window time now pest control are a comin and their days are numbered . don't blame me I did try but judgin by the fact that the window cleaner refuses to clean the windows and the postman tends to jump up and down nervously outside the house it's curtains for the little bleeders!

Soon I shall be hopefully publishing a photo of this now almost infamous nest which is currently about the same size as Frank Sidebottoms head!..I kid you not! ( I assume most might know who he is for those who dont imagine a carrier bag inflated with air ..thats the size of it ! )
watch this space for the photo evidence !
