I knew I recognised Wassenaar...I used to live just up the road from there at Noordwijk! Also used to frequent Leiden which is just a few km east. Nice area.

Not quite, they held a respectful distance, milled around looking at me, then wandered off shaking their heads, or looking quizzical. They looked like they wanted to ask, but I think The Venerable Mrs Seed had tipped them off, that unless they had a spare hour, they were better not asking me anything!Sofa said:
We had a conversation at work about sandcastles (busy bunch us firemen); as an Island race we seem to be obsessed with Kanute like displays. One of our Watch used to take his best Spear & Jackson to the beach in order to complete the most monumental edifice. Certainly The Seeds visit to the beach, wherever, is not complete without erecting a tide defying fortification. The manic, yet ultimatley futile, attempt to repel the oncoming waves is a pleasure to savour all year.
No one digs Castles with the enthusiasm of the Brits; infact its easy to spot a brit on any foriegn beach, they'll be the ones with a sandcastle nearbye, a cricket set, and the tell tale crimson on white tan. Mum will be organising the sandwiches (complete with real sand), carrying all the kit, administering to the injured, stung, and burnt. Dad will be standing hands on hips, white socks glowing in his open sandals, surveying his domain, desperately holding in his paunch. His Spear & Jackson at his side; no wonder we won the war!
