What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

Spent the day at Weston Super Mare with the favourite nephew (Shit all competition) - I say that knowing there is no way my much older sister will ever see anything I post on here. Left Yarnfield at 08.30, got parked up at 10.45.
I drove, got a numb bum now. We parked on the beach, wasn't too bad, but felt the wheels go a couple of times going over it.
Walked from there all the way to the old pier. I do have a photo of it, but didn't zoom in when I took it, so won't be posting owt.
At the start of all these days out with him, I was 6ft tall, I'm now 5ft 6'' and shrinking fast. Haven't lost any weight though, still a fat heffer.

Gave @staffordjas a wave as we passed thru Worcester (Going and coming home) Didn't tell him what I was doing, he already thinks I'm the Dotty old Aunt as it is.

Could have popped in for a cuppa , we are only about a minutes drive from JCT 6 :D
Awww maybe next time, if there is a next time.
We didn't enjoy it much. Even though there's oodles of shops, we like something to look at. Decent architecture. The pier on Birnbeck Island was about the only thing we noticed, shame we couldn't get closer, id've loved a rummage through the ruins.

I'm looking for somrwhere to book for our 41st anniversary. Any suggestions on hotels in Oxford with parking?
No, I don't think Oxford's much good for accommodation.
I've had several nights at the Youth Hostel but that's being demolished for an additional entrance for the railway station.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Whenever we've stayed in Oxford itself we've used Malmaison, a converted prison, handy for shops and only a five minute walk from 'historic Oxford'
I'm told the Old Hall is good too.
Very nice place, been there a few times now. And it had a staring role in an early episode of Lewis.

That would be perfect , telling him we are staying in a prison .... when saying how long we've been married hubby's always saying "Train robbers didn't get that long!" Just had a look at it, look nice rooms.

I suspected that I would eventually find the frame of the fourth failed garden chair and, looking for something else (of course), i found it at the weekend - so, I have the full set of four matching stools now.

The new one just needs a coat of Danish oil and it can go into service.

It is the work of a few seconds to release the cast iron seat from the one that lives in the greenhouse, but that has proved to be a good idea, it's more comfortable than the flat board and retains a lot of free heat.

I spent some time over the recent wet days making a set-up to allow a water pipe to be run in from the greenhouse nearest to the Shed, where a supply already exists. The pipe should be able to be fed through the continuous pipe, which will act as some protection for it. There's also a second duct, which will enable a few more wires to pass through, for communication between the buildings.

This was an awkward job, as the black pipe is 1" in diameter, but my largest masonry drill is 24mm, so a bit of 'adjustment' was necessary once the holes were drilled. It can all be tidied up at some point...

I've just had the closer from the back door of the pub delivered for repair. It's not worked for a while and the assumption was that it needed a refill of oil - this has proved to be correct. We'll see how long this oil stays in.

The intended filler cap was made of stuff so soft that it wasn't possible to unscrew it, but I managed to get a good bit of oil in via the speed screw holes. It is often difficult to guess which screw is for 'closing' and which is for the 'latch'. That was the case on this one, but I see that, not only did the idiot who designed it choose to make it from recycled digestive biscuits, but he went to all the trouble of including the necessary information on the casting of the body, but in a place where you're only going to be able to see it if you've managed to screw it to a glass door!

It will be interesting to see how long it works for - it's possible that the seals have failed, in which case the end is nigh...

Anyway, doing this involved using the 'metal vice', sat loose on the Workmate. Whilst engaged on the job, I considered drilling holes that would be suitable for securing the vice properly - then I noticed that the existing holes are actually near enough in the right places - result!

Even the rear hole is 'predrilled'.

I just need to sort out some suitable bolts.

Only now, having had that vice for around 35 years, do I notice, from the first picture, that somebody has helpfully stamped the width of the jaws on, in imperial and metric.

It of course means, I have ready made Zimmer Frames for when I need one.
You've even done yrsen one with a seat, so you can sit a while, have a pint of Guinness and a natter!!

I have a wheel to fix - only in the sense of it looking 'right' and not falling apart.

DSC_0612.JPG

The felloes have shrunk away from the tyre that was originally shrunk onto them, but I've managed to shim the five gaps so that they are reasonably tight again.

DSC_0614.JPG

I'll trim them to shape at some point, but I still need to bodge up some bits for the missing parts of the hub - that may take some time.

But, at least it shouldn't all fall to bits in the meantime.

I managed to achieve all this whilst 'my' cat felt it OK to just lounge by the pool.
