I don't think my Ford Fiesta has a light to indicate ABS (will double check though) but it definately has it and it was activated again this morning.... clever car :)

EDIT - having researched what on earth a Toyota Estima Lucida was.... it will depend on the age of the car... the newer ones tend to have it but the older ones don't seem to.

The real Geremy Klarkson would maybe say ABS means Automotive Bonking Stallion!.......

Wow loads of response to this one! Great guys.....sounds like your a fairly sensible lot! LOL

ABS - yes if ABS light comes on when you turn the ignition you have it, if not then you don't!

I think Mitch is correct, there are looneys on the Motorway, I must admit that my Motorway driving was horrendous till I did my training! Most folks don't get any tuition, and as said it shows. I take all my Students on the Motorway where I drive and explain what I am doing. Having said that the take up on Pass Plus and Motorway driving sessions is really low. I always push lessons, but people think its too expensive! I don't think so, Pass plus is pretty much half funded by our beloved Staffordshire County Council so no excuses there. I think people cannot be bothered once they are passed! My pass plus route is awesome though - we do the peak district (some of my favourite roads) and cover M62, M60, M6 and A500!

I went on Hixon Skid Pan just before it closed, I think it was 2007. Superb facility, I learnt how to control front and rear wheel drive skids AND ABS and cadence braking - Fantastic but closed because it was costing Staffs Police too much! Apparently they go to Kent now in a Skid Car on an airfield?

Great comments on Skidding guys, sounds like most of you got it sussed! (i've written about skidding on my blog and all of you got top marks!) Main thing is to remove the cause usually accelerator, brake or steering....... but just driving at a sensible speed and following distance is a start!

Annoyingly I was teaching skid control on the very last Sainsbury's Car Park (nearly empty) and got told off cos a warden was there, I tried persuasion, but went somewhere else in the end. There was one guy taking his daughter around the car park trying to get her to sort out skid - great practice! Finally I've done nearly 1000mile is the last two weeks and I got stuck once only, and that was a very steep hill in Stoke on Trent, just went around it instead.

I do like someone who can encapsulate the essence of the matter in such a concise and accurate manner.

Those are the three main causes of a skid, brake, accelerator or steering. Too much of all of them causes a skid.......

What's wrong with the cresswell lot? I have plenty of scary moments on the cresswell roundabout as I come past the exits to the motorway, god knows what speed they are coming at, but I'm surprised they can stop half the time! I thought I came off slip roads quickly, but the lorries particularly take the biscuit!

I've been hit there twice, on two successive days about four years ago. The second one would have killed me if I hadn't had the practice run the day before. I ended up on the grass on the inside and getting back off that was entertaining in itself...

The second assailant was really shaken by it, as she had her two-year-old in the back and hadn't the slightest hope of stopping. I made her promise to get a donor card and carry it.

Bloody hell! Side impacts can be horrendous too.....various reasons, not good though! Has it got high grip surface on the exit slip road (brown/amber coloured tarmac) that would help! Its twice as much cost wise as normal tarmac, but they should do something if there are lots of incidents there!

Especially when one is on a bike!..

I did consider telling her to get a card for her child as well, but I think the point had been made.

The first one didn't really care and I just left her to explain the scrape down the side to her husband.
