Well, if you really want to know, it was The Bay City Rollers, I was 10.

Closely followed by one of those compilation Top of The Pops things and it had Smoke gets in your eyes on there but I can't for the life of me remember what else it had on it.

Snap Scuttlingb, a Top of the pops compilation, which, for you youngsters, were poor cover versions of current hits by session musicians. I think mine was someone's version of Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits! And I remember thinking it was quite good!

It was the first HITS album on tape, of course.

Had the likes of Prince, ZZ Top, Paul Young, Thompson Twins. . .

You know this thread got me thinking. I've just spent the last hour telling the misses what tapes I had when I was a kid and tbh there's some absolutely shocking stuff in there. Here's a glimpse:

The first albums by Bros and New Kids on the Block
Vanilla Ice debut
Technotronic (the one with Pump Up the Jam on it)
Brother Beyond
Five Star

I also vaguely remember a tape by Debbie Gibson.

I know we all have to start somewhere but give me strength..............

To think I went from there to the likes of 2 Live Crew, NWA, Kid n Play, Eric B and Rakim, Hijack and then punk rock. Bizarre.

Wasps - feel my wrath!
As a family with my siblings we had

Christmas with the chipmunks! oh and Alvin ! but wasn't what you would call music

Was bought loads indeed Abba arrival , tubular bells, ELO down to earth and a few others

but

one day split the pocket money and then went halfers on outlandos d'amour by the police 1978 with ys sister . I still have it in mint condition and it's still half belongs to my sister ..shh don't tell her !

I would have loved to have said never mind the bollocks/ramones/ or the Clash first one all of which I did have on tape .Recorded from a mono 1 piece red record player onto a mono big push button tape recorder ( my best friend for years!) but parents would never allow that type of music in the house .I however did make up for it almost as soon as the balls dropped and the teenage defiance kicked in NMTB is still as good today as it was then .. well I think so

..

The first album I remember getting was 'Break-in': the soundtrack. Had lots of people in mid-dance poses, wearing flourescent leg warmers and leggings on the front, and featured Chaka-Khan and 'Reckless' by Ice-T. Proper old school.

Or did I have the Howard Jones and Nick Kershaw albums that my parents inexplicably bought me for crimbo one time before that?

The first I remember actually buying was 'Raisin' Hell' by Run DMC: "Peter Piper picked peppers, but Run rocked rhymes" etc etc.

First album: Abbey Road by The Beatles
First single: The Stonk by Hale and Pace.

I think both of them are still knocking round my mum's house somewhere....

Cuffy is the new skill
i was 7 when i bought my first album, and i dont mind admitting that at 7 years old i didnt know my arse from my elbow and wasnt the chin stroking musical snob i am these days. hence, the first album i bought was what was number 1 at the time - Rick Astley.
