Whatever happened to day trips?

When i was little my parents used to take me to see Blackpool illuminations every october! This would involve getting up whilst it was still dark, walking to a particular waiting point before getting on the old coach to blackpool. On arrival heading straight for the pleasure beach, then the shops, buying crap you will never use again, eating too much candy floss and junk food and walking it off for hours and hours and hours. Then as 8pm approached, the desperate feeling for plain boring food like beans on toast in a backstreet cafe. Just as the sicky feeling from overeating was starting to dissapear, being replaced by a severe leg/back ache, it was then 11pm and time to get on the coach for a long journey home.

Well being the nice parent i am, I thought it would be nice for my daughter to experience the same torture (sorry i meant adventure) as i did lol.

Ive looked around the net to see what coaches depart from stafford - but there doesnt seem to be any!!! I found a booking site for a 3 day trip to blackpool for Oct 2012!!

Anybody know of any coaches that pickup around here? Its not the same if i take the car.

National express do one, gets you there for 7.40 am though and will cost 2 adults 2 kids nearly £70.

London Midland have a day trip offer on between 22/10 and 6/11, don't know if they go to Blackpool though.

Family railcard would knock a fair chunk off though.

Thats a pretty good idea you have there. Just looked and as far as i can see its only £28 a year, that is a big chunk....oh i just read small print that only gives you a 1/3 off the price - so it would work out same as i would be paying £28 for a once only usage

With the family railcard, I'm sure discount is 50% for kids & 33% for adults. If you buy online over a week in advance, you can get some really good deals.

St Thomas's church.

Demolished in the early 70s - there was a Great Mills DIY place there for a while after.

Thanks.
So demolished the year before i moved to Stafford.
And I think the Great Mills DIY place became the Stafford Newsletter offices after they moved from Mill Street.

Yes.

I suspect the sale of the site may have been used to finance the new St Thomas and St Andrew church in Doxey.

Loved the mystery tours in the 70's from Stafford Station, with a prize for guessing where the train was about to end up.
Ended up in Oxford one time , at least I can now say me & my mates went to Oxford University after a wander around there :D
