Just had a call at work from the police saying that there has been a serious RTA at the end of Meyrick Rd, and that the road is closed from the Wolv Rd Surgery to the Telegraph.

According to our drivers, there have been at least 3 ambulances in attendance.

I've heard other stories, but i'm not repeating them in case they're true.

There has been an awful accident, i didn't witness what happened but was there seconds after I heard it.

A little girl approx four years old was knocked over on one side of the road and her mother on the other.

Its quite serious and the road is still closed and I think it may be closed for a while.

According to policeman who rang us at work, it likely to be shut for 4 hours and is a "crime scene".

I think they were both in a serious condition, but alive when they left in separate ambulances.

Like I said i didn't witness anything but it sounds if they had been attending a carol service at St Austins and it happened after that.

Its just awful and I hope and pray that they are both doing OK and can make it through and make a full recovery.

The police investigation is still going on and I seriously wouldn't be surprised if the road is still closed tomorrow.

Friars Road/Terrace currently one way (in to town only), while wolverhampton road is closed completely from the 'graph down. I've just just been over to see a copper about it and the time scale is "quite a while".

Looks like the roads open again now, traffic started going through at speed almost immediately after the police had gone. This area is already an accident black spot, the police and the council are both aware of it but no actions are ever taken and the sadly predictable consequences have be borne out tonight and sadly will probably happen again.

I'm very upset about what has happened tonight, and feel frustrated, as someone could just as easily get hurt again.

Please keep a thought for the injured mother and daughter and their family, especially tonight.

Why do these things always seem worse around Christmas, I hope all is well, can't stop thinking about them.

In a spectacular display of stable door closure following a bolting horse incident I see that boys in fluorescent yellow were pulling over the hot hatch brigade and wagging fingers at them, as I was on my way home.

To be fair to the Police, I think they now have a government statistic system to respond to things. So the onus is on the public to report things the the police and they flag up areas that are reported as having problems and focus their attention in these areas. The problem with this is most people don't want to bother the police when things are not an emergency and they only get to the crux of the problem when their attending something serious and people will voice their underlying concerns then.

According to this mornings news, a "Mitsubishi 4x4" was involved and the driver has been let out on bail...
It also said on news, 'mother and child are recovering in hospital'. Sounds like they're okay now, thank goodness.
