Wanted Where Can I Buy A Cheap Car?

250,000th poster!
I'm after a cheap small car, preferably below (well below) £1,000 & preferably a dealer as I have a car to part exchange.

The only place I can think of in Stafford is the Reynolds Centre, the bloke there is lovely & really helpful, but he only has one small car (Ka) & its too expensive...

Any ideas of other places locally lovely people?

There were loads of small car & small dealers a few years ago when I didn't need one, but now they've all disappeared!

Ka or Micra is the type of size I'm looking for - we've been lucky before in buying very cheap cars from Auto trader/gum tree/auctions & from the place in Stoke (we can't remember where) that sold re-possessed cars...but, I would like to offload my corsa - hence the dealer...

Thanks @Laurie61 & @proactive - I hadn't heard of either of them.....

Gnosall usually have some good little run arounds, not sure of their name but they are by the mini roundabout as you head towards Newport

Why not just scrap it? Watsons up on the common road are ok.
It probably end up just being scrapped :( Poor car - there's not really much wrong with it, but its MOT has just run out, I know it will cost a couple of hundred to get it through its MOT (it always does), so I'm probably better off putting the money to a newer car & having a change....

Pete Jolley - I went there yesterday, but there was nothing small enough...

Erm, I'd urge a little caution there.

Might be worth asking Bank Top what they have 'round the back' though. But that probably won't be much use if you are part exchanging.

Thanks @proactive :) I'm aware of what you are on about - haha!

I've already been to Bank Top, he's got something that I may be interested in later in the week, I believe that the oh talked to him about trading mine in too....

Facebook? Usually a few cheap cars on there. You could always fix your car yourself? Unless the clutch has gone or something , wouldn't fancy doing that

I would be inclined to buy one for £250 and when it falls to bits or fails the MOT - get another one for the same price

The AA do a complete check on a car if you want peace of mind but its likely to take up a good chunk of your budget

Better to chat to friends and see if there is one with a long standing careful owner you can care for

Alan ( Chatfields ) has been around in Stafford longer than even I have - so cant be all bad, can he......?

I would recommend putting your current car on something like ebay. So long as you put plenty of information on the site about the car etc you'll get plenty of interest and likely get more than trade in.

Its looking more & more like I'm just going to put mine through its MOT & keep running it for a while..

....I am going to keep looking though - even though there's not much wrong with it, I'm thoroughly fed up with it - I even prefered my old KA to it!

Where are you taking it for its MOT ?

I don't wish to be rude, but a failed MOT car is literally worth scrap value on the private market unless it's something particularly special or interesting, and a corsa is not that. A dealer won't even look at it, it will cost them money to scrap it, so I'm sorry to say, part ex is right out the window.

Also, if you're looking to part-ex on a car worth less than a grand, then it wouldn't be in their interest anyway.

Lastly - why a dealer? At £1000 you'll be getting a car they got for free or gave £50 for.
