I know the worst one for quality is on Weston Road (in my opinion) and Sandon Road is pretty good.

Some good info in this other thread about various chippy's. I like the battered chips (you have to say you want battered though) at Northern Lights on Stone Rd.

Oddly I think Weston Road is the best, and the one on Sandon Road is bloody awful.

I have to agree about Sandon Road. I've never been too impressed with that one.

I did some work on this kind of thing a few weeks back and i would give my vote to the Boppin Dolphin next door to Spoons. I seem to recall i enjoyed a most agreeable potato scallop/fritter..talking of Spoons the other night i downed a large amount of Iron Curtain in there the other night. It is a superb stout courtesy of The Titanic Brewery and coming in at 6% in has the ability to inflict damage! Whilst reading info on the forthcoming Beer Festival i noted that they will be having another Titanic called Vevet Curtain not sure now if it is a stout and at 5% should not be so impactive on what's left of the old grey matter....

Ive never been overly impressed by weston road either, the chips are ok but when I order a large portion I expect to have enough for two people to share. After repeatedly being given a large portion that was dwarfed by most other chippys normal portion I decided not to bother going there anymore.

Defnitely NOT Parkside - its minging - I think the best chippy is split between Highfields and Stone Road.

when y'all say highfields, do you mean the one on west way? cos i think that's the nearest one to me (since i moved house), so if so this is great news.. i've yet to try it, but my interest is defo piqued if it's starting to earn "best chippy in stafford" recommendations!

My fish and chips from a shop in Driffield were rather nice yesterday, but I guess it's a little far to travel...

Little Fawn on Milford Common....they taste soooo good after a walk across the chase, and cooked to order so fresh as a daisy.

also at milford is the wimpy kiosk, i know most of it comes from the feezer but it's also cooked to order and is served hot. i'm drooling now just thinking of those fried onions, it's getting a bit late for me otherwise i'd get in the car and go treat myself....

Yup the one on Westway, next to the westway pub.
Ive tried almost all the chippies in Stafford and this is the best bar none! Fab chips, fish and portions and cracking service.

this is brilliant news.. i have to admit, growing up "south side" (e.g. walton, wildwood, baswich) i have a built-in snobbery that i can't avoid, whereby i avoid anything that involves the word "highfields".. i guess that had kicked in here, as i just assumed the westway chippy was crap!

looks like i'm having fish 'n' chips this weekend :D:up:

Yeah the old bag who works behind the counter is sooo miserable and also just assumes you're not hungry when dishing out food :(

yeah, i've heard good things about the new little fawn.. my sister loves it so much, she sometimes goes there instead of the one on bodmin, even though she lives on weeping cross!

Another vote for the one in Highfields... as its probably my nearest chippy.... not tried many other places but never needed to really.

One other place I have tried was the Windmill place... surprised more of the Castletown contingent on here haven't got any comments on it... Thought it was ok myself.

Oh and Weston Road Fish Bar is good too....
