Why No Public Enquiry?

Why haven't we had a full public enquiry into how the country has got into this mess?

Surely we should be told how and who has got us into this situation and those responsible should be punished!

AFAIK you can't prosecute someone unless they break the law. If they happen to make the law there is very little chance you'll find them accountable. Legally anyway.

Hahahaha

hmmmm...

How sweet

So would you save money and have a joint Inquiry for each and every country hit by the banking con?..

Almost every country is in the shit because of the crimes committed by banks and conmen ( no prosecutions anywhere of course ) - Britain is in the deepest shit along with the States because it has the largest financial sector in Europe..

Hold an Inquiry and all you deduce is that National Governments no longer have control over their own nation - anywhere in the world - bar N Korea

so that wouldnt look terribly good would it?

Rip Off Britain ? Rip Off World more like

That didn't take long - and cost a good deal less.

The biggest shame of this whole financial mess is that we will not learn from it, and the Conservatives who can be no worse than Labour, get power just in time to fix things and put us on the road to recovery only for Labour to take power back at the next general election.

In an ongoing spirit of equating a Big (Society) Economy to a household one - another;

A household is ticking along nicely.

It spends perhaps a little too much given it’s income, however it’s not over-spending too crazily, and could cut down on the odd cinema trip here, decent bottle of wine there and general frivolity everywhere.

Credit allows for this approach to living as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. After all, they could cut that out whenever – if needs be.

Suddenly, one of the walls of their house falls down. This they were not expecting. Nor, to the point, budgeting for.

Bugger.

They now have to pay. Not only to repair the wall, but having taken expert opinion, they must pay an indeterminate amount to keep the rest of the house from falling down. They have not budgeted for that at all. They now have to borrow massively to pay for those repairs, to keep the roof from falling in and leaving them with nothing.

Double bugger.

You subsequently discover that the wall did not fall. Some crazed idiot, high on finance, crashed into the side of your wall and brought your household tumbling down.

Contrite he is. Until he sobers up. Whereupon he pays to repair the Car, pays himself a trauma bonus, takes out the bottle of finance he nicked from your drinks cabinet whilst sitting dazed in your living room, takes a hearty swig and quantitavely eases himself back into the driving seat.

As he drives off you wonder…

Are you going to pay for the effing wall or what?

Labour are idiots if they want power back so soon, surely the need the tories to get some money in the bank first? It all goes in cycles, blues pile it up and reds chuck it about. What we need is someone in between, that also makes sensible policies. So we're screwed.

Yes, I'm sure you're right.

When the next wave of cheap credit arrives, more sub prime and self certified mortgages will be sold and repackaged across the globe, whilst the bankers earn a healthy profit.

Out of interest, why are we getting the banks to pay back what they needed to bail them out? Why not just keep x% of their bank, and enjoy the profits whilst retaining a way to keep them in check - enough shares gives a lot of clout. I know we kept Northern Rock, but I'd have kept stakes in the others.
