Out of interest I've Just looked at this online as I will be looking for replacement bathroom window in the future, the law looks a bit ambiguous on the subject and there are a lot of bemused people out there; it would appear from what I can ascertain that unless you already have trickle vents and or a damp/mould issue then no you don't need them. I can understand the bathroom might need them but I can't fathom out why you need them on the landing windows.

I was told that there was no need for vents when I had my double glazing replaced a couple of years ago. The fact that I had a combi boiler, its size and the size of the rooms seemed to have come into it, plus the flue for the fire in the living room.

Yes I just don't understand it , my hubby not bothered but he believes everything everyone says , the bathroom window is quite small for the size of the room so I can get that but not the landing one , I shall have to ring him and ask hime to explain

For your own amusement, ask them to point you to the written and clear point of law they are quoting, when they can't answer with clarity ask them if the required vents are to let the smell of bull toilet out.

If you don't want to do that My normal recourse is to say I'll check that out with trading standards first, and watch the awkward flustering commence.

I was told when we replaced our windows, that you have to replace "like for like" as a minimum, i.e. if there is one there now, it has to be replaced with one.

Just echoing the above. Recently had our windows done and it was a case of replacing at minimum what was there. I actually wanted trickle vents but didn't get them in the end. There shouldn't be any relation to any boiler or other appliance you have. If there's a vent requirement with these then it'll need to be an actual vent in the wall, rather than a window vent that can usually be open or closed.

Just to confirm what biccies has already said. The boiler and fire do not need window vents, however if you have a gas oven/cooker or hob an op-enable window in the kitchen is required.
