On average the value of the wine in a £5 bottle is actually 37p! (after production, transport & tax etc.). You get a lot more value by going up in price even by a couple of quid.

Aldi for everyday wine. As well as the Malbec mentioned by @Lucy there's also a very nice Italian Rosso for only £3.29!!!

Mid range wine normally from Waitrose depending on what offers they have at any given time.

The best stuff involves a trip to southern France.
I also recommend Aldi's Malbec and also their Pinot Grigio - the one that is around £3.50 on the bottom shelf- out of stock at the mo in the intown Aldi.

This week will be spent carefully considering how to pack the most amount of French wine and sausage into the space we will have available in the car. Current options include leaving the dog and child behind or buying a roofbox, to make the most of it.
