Work placements for the long term unemployed

This subject annoys the hell out of me. My husband and I work full time, supporting 2 young children. We live in a basic house, mortgage etc. We have always drilled into our kids ... do well at schoool - you have to get a job blah blah blah ... to pay for what you have in life.

Another family I know, they all dont work, the husband is looking for work, the wife has no intentions of looking for work (40 plus years of age, never worked for more than a week and seriously cannot be bothered), nor their 3 kids (aged 18 - 22) all the family members know the system inside and out. Their aged kids have the latest phones, designer clothes etc - rented house ... paid for ! from money they have claimed in their own right. Every now and then one of the kids may have a job for a few weeks, then just quit.

Who is right and who is wrong !

The 'system' should be there for real working people who have lost their jobs, or have real issues and cannot work - dont give a penny to the lazy sods and immigrants that cannot be bothered. How can you claim from a system you have never paid into!

Sorry if I offend - but my age continues to rise before I can retire, and I have to keep paying into a system that pays money for those that wont work.

Do any of you object to having to pay to keep those people who are truly long term unemployed and do not want to work? I don't care that they will be expected to work 30hours a week for less than the minimum wage at least they will be working instead of sitting on their bums doing nowt. It also seems to me that a lot of these long term unemployed manage to smoke and buy a pint with the money that you and I provide for them. I do agree that people who are willing to work should not lose the chance of a job because of this scheme but in my opinion the benefits system in this country is long overdue for an overhaul. I know this point of view is contentious and there are genuine people out there who need help but I feel that as usual the minority spoil it for the majority.

I've always said it should be a safety net, not a lifestyle. Not everyone is like the people you say, many are genuinely in need of help after losing a job, but unfortunately everyone I know knows people who work the system. I know a guy who claimed he couldn't work because he gets dizzy when going up a ladder, well apply for sitting down jobs then! Its not like the fat **** could climb a ladder anyway, it'd break. Although TBH he's probably classed as morbidly obese by now so wouldn't have to work, as its classed as a disability despite being entirely his own choice :|

Tesco will soon decide your healthcare so I guess they will be taking a slice of this too

Britain ( or rather its media and politicians ) has an obsession with the US, it is a shame that we pay so little attention to the way of life of the rest of the world, and in particular our neighbours in Europe

I'm not sure that it is just the media and the politicians. A lot of people that I know feel much happier if they can blame 'Europe' for what we have done to ourselves...
