D'uh! I'm so post-decimalisation....
Decimalisation of the UK currency actually started in 1849 with the introduction of the 2/- coin, worth a tenth of a pound and commonly called a florin, becoming the 10p piece in 1967 as 1971 approached. - it took a while to make the next step after the initial leap forward in 1849, it might have gained more ground if the half crown had been discontinued at the same time - perhaps.......
