Time and time and time again it has been shown that building extra roads does little to ease congestion yet short-sighted councils (like ours) continue to think that spending millions on roads is the only way.

Our council doesn't spend money on roads to ease congestion. They are building the western access road to 'Access' even more housing and, They had Queensway built to pedestrianise the Town Centre.

Nope, never seen the point while I live here as Stafford traffic is such a joke. Got a motorbike for long journeys but anything under 3 miles I either walk or cycle, always have. Means I can eat whatever I want and drink as much as I like yet always have spare room in my 32" jeans.

Do you drive?

I have a car, I use it for essential journeys when walking/cycling or public transport is not possible. I cycle to work, I walk to town 90% of the time, and I use trains and buses where I can, i.e to Stoke, Wolverhampton, Liverpool or London. Being a car driver does not exclude one from wanting massive improvements in sustainable transport. Being a car driver doesn't exclude me from getting irate at the state of traffic in Stafford, a combination of too many selfish blerts driving short distances 'because they can' and who'd rather moan about the traffic than realise that they are directly responsible for it, and shite planning from the Council, who, if there's a chance to f*ck it up, WILL!!

Yes I do because I live in a semirural location.

What does rural or town have to do with using the car for journeys of less than a mile? Unless someone is elderly or disabled or its pouring down with rain there really is no excuse for that. Sheer laziness.

Plus such journeys damage a car's engine and cause extra pollution due to the engine not being able to warm up properly.

Because I don't want to, just like you don't want to learn to drive or stop drinking cider. :)

If you want to drive everywhere don't then moan about the traffic jams you have to sit it, because you are the problem! You and others with your attitude!

I am not the problem, the roads leading into Stafford are.

The way I see it is the town is expanding but they don't have a good road system but I have no idea how they can improve it.

A D road linking the a5013 a34 a513 and the a449 to the m6 this would allow through traffic to route around Stafford half if it is already built with the a34 link road and beaconside

The section of Beaconside, from Sandon Road Road to Weston Road was built in the late '30s, as the first section of the intended Eastern By-Pass - extended to the A34 in the late '70s - then the few yards to the fire station around the turn of the century - a bit every thirty/forty years - it might take a while yet.

Not everyone feels safe walking alone, whatever the distance or the time of day.

Then cycle? The only real threat to cyclists is cars. Like I said I have a motorbike, its not like I can't go long distances, I just can't see the point in using it for short journeys when I just end up stuck in traffic I'd bypass on a bicycle. Each to their own but every car adds to congestion, you can't moan about congestion when you are making pointless journeys. I can even bypass most roads completely if I use certain bike tracks, I can get to Gnosall with about 5% actual road use!

I would be seriously looking at the need for some of the traffic lights, others lights could be set to flashing amber, when not at peak times. There are also left turns controlled by lights that could go, traffic lights could be fazed in groups so once past one green the next few would also be green. Build underpasses in place of the busiest pedestrian crossings, remove speed humps except near schools. See if new 20 mph limits have actually improved safety and if not reinstate the original 30 mph limit. This would go for all other reduced speed limits where no actual safety improvements have been measured, which is probably most of them.
