Yes £1.50 on Arriva 825 to weeping cross, instead of £2.30, first time ever I have known Arriva's prices go down! and by 80p, anyone living in Wildwood area I would choose the 825, although not sure if the 1 to baswich is still £2.30 for practically same stop

It's also gone down form £2.20 to £1.50 on the No 10 (previously the 101) from the Norht end to town. I mean, a price REDUCTION on the cost of a bus ticket, Unheard of :)

don't mention the blinds
It must be a struggle for bus drivers - traffic, driver and passenger behaviour, etc.

I suggest that I would be homicidal before lunchtime on the first day.

Having said that, I have been on a bus in Stafford two, possibly three, times in forty years.

Oooh homicidal eh ? and then your 1st passenger after lunch rolls up. "Welcome aboard Shoes " !!.....

Anyone heard anything about the Arriva bus depot in Stafford closing in September.
And possible reduced timetables?

don't see it a bad thing cutting down the number of busses as they are usually mostly empty out side rush hour . having few busses with more people on is probably the way to go.

I was told, by a County Councillor, earlier this year, that the bus companies are finding it increasingly difficult to run even daytime services on a commercial basis and, given government cuts in funding, the County Council is struggling more and more to subsidise services. Therefore, cuts are inevitable.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think a lot of the existing contracts come up for renewal around September. Of course, cuts to current commercial services could happen at anytime, but I've a feeling that August or September may see the first announcements.

cutting 4 nearly empty busses an hour to one 50+% full bus for example is probably a fair compromise for the taxpayer who sub the service and the end user who get a bus service at below cost price.

The problem is that public transport needs to be at least a reasonable replacement for private transport if it's going to succeed, reducing buses to once an hour is going to make it more and more difficult for people to depend on them which in turn will reduce usage further. A once an hour bus might be viable for retired people popping into town, it's not viable for people who want to use public transport for getting to and from work. A public transport service needs to be plentiful and reliable if it's to encourage people to depend on it, which is true for buses and trains too.

Having busses drive round almost empty is inefficient and drives up cost who should pay for this. public finances are stretched, taxpayers want to keep taxes as low as possible and the bus user's don't want to pay for it through higher bus fairs. Driving efficiency has got to be the only way to keep an acceptable, financially viable service that meet the need of both taxpayers and end users.

well 825 is horrendous, full of kids, sometimes loads of people standing, in mornings 8-9am, and 4-5pm

Meeting the need of taxpayers and end users are mutually exclusive in my opinion.

If the bus isn't full during peak times it time to cut there losses. It doesn't change the fact that off peak service is under utalised and this is where the cuts should fall to drive efficiency and therefor reduce costs.
