Bus service changes

Sinned

A few posts under my belt
For more years than I care to remember, myself and a number of like-minded acquaintances have met together at town centre drinking establishments on a Sunday evening. The purpose of which was to enjoy good beer and convivial conversation. The evening would conclude, safe in the knowledge that the 22-45 No.8 bus to Moss Pit would deliver me safely home to the bosom of my loved ones.

Imagine my horror and disgust to find out that as of the 5th September this bus is to be discontinued. The powers that be (arriva and Staffordshire County Council) have decided in their ultimate wisdom that no-one requires public transport along the Wolverhampton Road after 19-30 on a Sunday.

Surely a need for some people to be put against a wall and shot!

It's not just Moss Pit services that are being cut. The reduction in subsidised services is widespread, with many evening services withdrawn. Even daytime services are being cut back in some areas and I am aware of people who will lose their jobs as a result of these cuts.

We only had one bus a day in Bednall and thats gone now.

Some of the elderly people dont drive and now have to rely on taxis or lifts to go and get their shopping.

If anyone needs the buses more it probably is the elderly, however I'm not surprised they are not being given any consideration, as the goverment seem intent on keeping the people working well into old age, welcome to Britain .........swat til you drop

It was bad enough when the 76 stopped running in the evenings! The 54 leaves town half an hour earlier. =/ One of these days, people who use the buses will actually be consulted on changes to routes and times...

The number 2 bus that serves the route my parents use is being axed altogether. they live on St. George's Road and rely on the bus to get into town and the Doctors several times a week. Neither of them are too steady on their feet and my Dad is 80 and has multiple health problems and walks with a stick. He visits the Doctors surgery almost every week and can't manage the walk to Lichfield road to catch other buses.
All the people who normally catch their bus are elderly or disabled - it's absolutely ridiculous that as of 5th September they will have no way to get to town.
I believe there is a petition and Chris Baron is trying to help to reinstate the bus service but I doubt it will do any good :(

825 bus to Lichfield is changing - last one leaves Gaol Square at 17:45 (Mon - Fri) then the 824 to Lichfield takes over and last one is 22:50 terminating at Brereton. Looks like the 824 goes via Bodmin Ave too. Different times for Sat and Sun.

Wildwood bus has gone to shit an' all.

Not so bad coming back, but if you're going in to town it now takes you via an immensely 'scenic' route - taking in the delights of Walton, St. Leonards and Fairway, like some deranged tour bus what you see in touristy places. Perhaps they should make it an open topped double-decker and have an audio loop narrated by Neil Morrissey.

This whole deregulation lark has been a great success though, hasn't it?

In the olden days wasn't the clue in the title?

As in Bus SERVICE meant providing a SERVICE.

Nowadays it seems like the word "service" to the people, to the community has been lost.

Its all about profit, and if something doesnt make a profit then forget it.

Why is profit more important than caring?

We talk about progress, but why do we seem to be going backwards in so many things?

Unfortunately everything comes down to profit it's the world we live in, you get the care and service as long as you can pay for it. A lot of kids these days only help with chores if there is an hourly rate on offer.

Is there a site that shows all these changes anywhere?

They've not touched our service this time, although it got cut earlier in the year, so it's essentially just a school bus now.
