Tiger store open in Stafford

Perhaps everyone's staying away, because of all the negative comments they've read on here?
I'm sure most people have the intelligence to make their own minds up, rather than be controlled by what they read on here.

When I went in last week there were plenty of people in the shop (too many actually, could hardly get round) but nobody was buying anything.

Is it negativity when it's an honest opinion? I normally love Tiger shops - I've made special trips to the Brum one in the past to get specific things and always go in when I see one - but this one was disappointing. Maybe it's down to it being temporary so not having the same stock. I really do hope it lasts though.

It's not negative to say "there's nothing in there to my taste, however I hope the shop lasts"

This on the other hand IS negative..

This is Stafford.... of course it won't last.

I really don't understand the mentality of people who seem to take delight in failure.

Or who are so jaded that they can't be upbeat or optimistic about anything.

No one is naive enough to compare Stafford with Ludlow or Chester or wherever.

But plenty of businesses have survived.

Stafford is now having money pumped in to it, new buildings, new investors, new restaurants, new cinema.

It's not going to suddenly change overnight but for goodness sake, give it a chance.

My comment is realistic rather than negative. I will not delight in the failure of this shop - I have no feelings about it one way or the other. But I am realistic enough to know that a shop that takes a very short term lease, invests nothing in shop fittings or decor and then barely takes any money is hardly going to set up a permanent shop.

There are actually very few new shops despite all the development. Most of the stores have simply moved from the main shopping area. The only 'new' shop that Stafford has managed to attract is Primark. Is that something of which we want to boast or be proud? I think not.

You previously said "This is Stafford, of course it won't last"

Therefore your comments were negative towards Stafford.

The problem with Stafford, as I said, is that to be realistic about Stafford one has to be negative. There is very little in Stafford to be positive about. And a pop up shop selling second rate Scandinavian tat is certainly not worthy of positivity.

Enjoying a drop of red.

That is utter nonsense. Try living in many other towns and you'll see just how much there is to be positive about Stafford.

If Stafford really is that bad, why do you live here? The last place I lived in really did have very little to be positive about, to the extent that I moved back to Stafford and went through the hassle of relocating my business here as well.

And a H&M - and yes, having stores that people otherwise would travel out of town to shop in (which I did with some regularity) open up here is a good thing. (see my rant elsewhere about negativity).

No I don't think Flying Tiger will stay past January - it says pop up shop on the window - in the same way Hawkin's Bazaars appear every so often and we welcome The Calander Club every year back - it doesn't mean it's not a nice little addition on the run up to Christmas

It is quite evident that more people are coming into the town. Just need to get bloody North Walls car park open again!

Really?

In my opinion Stafford IS a disappointment. It's the County Town for gods' sake, but has less to offer than even Uttoxeter. When a County Town is overshadowed by the County Boroughs, places like Burton, Lichfield (as a City !) and Stoke/Hanley (who have long since assumed the mantle of the "real" Staffordshire County Town as a Unitary Authority) then it is in trouble.

It SHOULD be a Shrewsbury, a Chester or a Derby. It COULD be. If it is going to be a County Town then is should be one, boast about it, be proud about it and invest in it. The only thing is seems to have invested in are new buildings for the Council whilst leaving a load of the old Council buildings to fester and turn to rack and ruin. It seems to have an opinion that it is rude to invest in the County Town as it would annoy some of the other towns in it, who are very good at claiming bias. Staffordshire is an amazing County, but Stafford is poor to say the very least.

There is serious money in the County, just as much as Chester and Shropshire. It is one of, if not the, greatest Shire we have with a wealth of so much. The County town just seems to be nothing more than an administrative centre for office workers. The population is set to grow but I fear it is too late - The dye has been set and Stafford is at the bottom of the list.

It could be so much more. Mind you, imagine the mess Stafford would be in if it still had Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton vying for top dog.

I've been fortunate to live in a couple of county towns (Northampton, Exeter) and whilst they were nice they had their flaws. (The cost of housing in Exeter when we left in 2001 was ridiculous).

Stafford isn't perfect but it's a ruddy sight better than other "county" towns.....

I lived in Lincoln in the 90's, it was a bit run down, it went through a huge facelift and is a vibrant city now. Ruddy steep hill mind you. With the right investment, and not just fixing the cobbled streets, and attracting the right businesses to all parts of the town centre, Stafford can thrive and be a destination people want to go to. That said I still love the town so feck em if others don't.

I 'lived' in Lincoln in the '70s - it was the worst place that I've ever lived.

No contest.
