After having some kind of flu last week I thought I was finally ok. Spoke too soon, as what started as a scratchy throat last night has degenerated into a neck as wide as my head (not a good look) and a throat that feels like I've been gargling acid. My neck hurts too with random feelings I'm being strangled. I wonder which child has shared this delight?

I haven't smoked a cigarette in some time.

Last night i crushed a packet of cigarettes in a dream i had.

It's actually quite some time and i am cautiously optimistic.

It feels good.
Keep it up @Withnail !

I gave up in 1979 after smoking over 4o a day for a few years.Had hypnosis and was so convinced it wasn't going to work that I left the contents of a newly opened fag packet at work , all except one that I took with me inside the packet in case he asked me to crush them. Sure enough the hypnotist asked me to hand over any cigarettes that I'd got (probably went outside afterwards and smoked it himself ...)
Got back in my car to drive back to work and couldn't stand the smell of the smoke inside from driving there. Never smoked since. I put the money into a jar that I would have spent daily and went on holiday with it :)

Surely he can afford a pair of matching eyes!

Or is that what the chicks are into these days....?....

Thanks @staffordjas i am still on it.

I rather think i've broken the back of it, but i'm massively wary of becoming complacent.

One thing i have noticed is that i'm considerably wealthier than i once was, which is quite understandably motivational.

One thing i'm still struggling with - if you've been a smoker you might get it - what i miss is that first 'drag' that fills your lungs right up to the top.

It's easier now, but i still get it a bit - but that * gasping * to fill the lungs in the way a mouthful of smoke would previously have done took a while to come to terms with.

I still get the occasional yearning for a cigarette and I gave up over 10 years ago but it gets lesser and lesser with time and I think the smoking ban probably helped in my case.

I first gave up when my son was due and we couldn't afford baby things and fags. I did a similar thing to @staffordjas and saved the money I would have spent on something for the baby.

I started again in the late 90s after going through a divorce and going out with the lads more.

Then gave up in 1999 for medical reasons and haven't touched one since.

A slight word of caution - you will soon become accustomed to your new found wealth, so much so that you will probably wonder how you afforded fags before.

Keep it up and good luck.

At the time I gave up you could still smoke in pubs. My main thing was having something to do with my hands, I was so used to lighting up as soon as hubby (I'd only just met him then and he didn't smoke) went to the bar. I solved that by nicking elastic bands from work and fiddling with them.

Also driving , I used to smoke all the journey and light up at jct 9 as I got off the motorway to smoke my last fag before seeing hubby. I just eat loads of mints nowadays .

Before my hypnosis, I used to give up every morning and give my cigs to a mate at work as I no longer needed them. She would hang onto them in her drawer until I started smoking again mid-day and hand them back to me.

(Had previously had weekly hypnosis through the NHS for a nervous breakdown, and the guy said that he always knew when I was arriving as I was coughing my guts up each time I got out of my car. He was so worried about my health that he said as soon as I was better and finished my treatment , he'd give me a hypnosis session to stop me smoking. Certainly worked as I can't stand the smell of smoke now.)

Well done and keep it up @Withnail
